The article really hit the diesel hard on performance and ride, not to mention the poor milage compared to other diesels. The article touched on the shifting of the transmission and the poor ride given by the change from 17 inch to 19 inch wheels. There were many other items that the writer down graded the 320 CDI on which included the heating sustem and the seats. Notibaly he hit the nail on the head about the shifting of the tranny. I am not too sure I agree with him totaly, but he did make his case which MBenz rebuked point for point. I for one might rethink buying an new 320 Blue Tec after reading his write up. The writer could give any potential buyer reason to avoid the Benz 320 CDI.

IN ADDITION to poor ride, there are LOTS more problems with runflats. The truth indeed will likely hurt a lot, as for the past year the ML has been MBUSA's best seller in terms of not losing sales volume over last year. MBUSI needs to get its act together on these cars. Edited by lkchris 11/29/2008 12:13 PM

Sorry to say, MB deserves a lot of it. In particular, the seven-speed tranny. It ought to be wonderful, and when it works right it is. But I've driven three cars with it now and they ALL have had that clunking & jerking issue, even after repeated visits to the dealer. That MB has known about this for years and refused to fix it is, frankly, disgraceful.

Mine was finally fixed when I changed the fluid and filter to the new ATF134 fluid. Then I very carefully adjusted the fluid level exactly as directed in the WIS. No more hard shifts - especially the 2->1 downshift. The ATF134 was specifically developed to address some of the shifting problems.

MB List Price is $17.00/liter, despite what most of the local dealers will try to charge you for it - $32.50 & $37.00 in Atlanta.
