OBD II Code P1405

I am up here in Canada for vacation, and I noticed the check engine light on. I have a small OBD II code reader/eraser so I decided to pull the code.

The code I came up with is P1405.

Conditions were 20 degrees farenheit outside (maybe less)...drove it a couple blocks around the corner, and parked for a couple hours. Started it up, and drove it back to the house and noticed the check engine light after I ran inside to grab something real quick.

I tried to clear it with the device, but it came back. Then I drove the vehicle down the road to go somewhere else and it reset itself. I verified the check engine light still works when I turned the car off by cycling the ignition switch just to rule out the highly unlikely event of a burnt out bulb or something.

Two questions...

1. This is manufacturer specific in this case as indicated by the "1" in the second character space...am correct here? Cause it sure isn't in my code lookup book. I also can't find it on line, except for some other vehicles...

2. Does anyone know what this means?

This from a Mercedes-Benz Information Specialist:

MB doesn't list that code...but it is in the area of an EGR fault.

Closest number listed is P1 403.

Your small code reader may be misreading a proprietary MB fault code. A STAR Diagnosis System wil probably tell you better.

Re: OBD II Code P1405

Thanks,

I have had EGR valve problems in the cold on other vehicles before, so that makes sense.

The code is gone now, but when I get the vehicle serviced again, i'll mention it.
