Emissions

Has anyone ever thought of removing whatever the exhaust filters are on their ML-320 CDI and running without them?

Curious if I could do this and get rid of the MB 229.51 oil requirement.

Would the Cat still be affected if I ran normal 5w oil?

I am doing all my own maintenance (perhaps except for the intake filters) from here on out.

Not sure where you're located, but I purchased the Mobil 1 ESP by the case from a dealer who discounts it very nicely. As a result, it's on a par with other synthetics when it comes to price.

There also is a software program built into the engine management computer that does planned maintenance - richer burn for higher exhaust temperatures to burn/clean out the DPF. Not sure how removal of the DPF would affect that.

I do all my own maintenance; and it's not really a cost issue.

Re: Emissions

Dealer isn't really helpful. Especially in Florence, SC. I was running low on oil a little while back so I figured I would stop by and pick up a case of the appropriate motor oil since I can't get it anywhere else.

Well, in short, they didn't have the ESP 5W-40 and when I asked about the emissions all they guy said was "We use this OW-40 stuff in all our vehicles and you are getting to technical for me". Needless to say I don't go there for service, I go to Columbia, SC.

Anwyay, I found the ESP oil online, so I will be doing it myself. Just curious anyway.

BTW, Q-109-0015 is the part # for the oil they used this last time...I hope that's right. I don't really trust these guys.

I don't blame you. Don't know what that P/N is. Sorry.
