ML350 Recommended??

By Consumer Reports? You heard it right. In their latest issue, CR gave the ML350 a thumbs up, citing safety, roomy interior along with comfort and ride.

RE: ML350 Recommended??

Even I have to admit, MB has made great strides with this model.

Did they offer any remarks about its projected reliability?

Agreed. I like the fit and finish of the W164. Of course, the later W163's aren't bad.

CR predicts average reliability, although they gave high marks to engine, cooling, electrical, transmission. But, it is also interesting that they said the 7 speed automatic always shifted at inappropriate times. They gave the W164 ML350 an overall score of 69, where most reliable cars seem to run in the mid to high '70's. The V8 model and diesel is not recommended.

While ownership of a W164 has a couple of drawbacks for me, I think I still may spring for one in the future.

I'm very happy with my diesel at 47,600 miles.

Their main drawback on the diesel may be the lack of reliability data and past history of their V-8's has been less than stellar.

I'm really impressed MB has upped the quality, especially since the W163 have never been recommended. The W163's have managed to stay on CR's 'Used Cars to Avoid' list.
