Need help with this

hi all

was driving back from work today and suddenly the truck started jerking and shaking , stopped on the side and tried raising it , but no luck , it was tsill shaking and coughing and eventually it died , waited for a few minutes , started her up , she seemed fine but after a few minutes was the same thing,
any ideas what is causing this ?

no error codes are showing up
the only thing changing drastically on the live data value is the STFT on both banks , becomes around + 25 on both banks

changed plugs recently
changed fuel filter around 6 months back ( although when the mechanic took a look at it , he said the filter needed to be changed, he said it wasnt blowing as freeely , whatever that means )

any help wud be appreciated

thx a lot

RE: Need help with this

CPS (crank position sensor)? Does it only do it when it's hot? If so, it could also be ignition coils but I doubt 1 coil misfiring would kill a V8.

So, when you say no error codes, did you check to see if there were any or are you saying there was no Check Engine Light?

RE: Need help with this

It could be a fuel pump since fuel starvation doesn't always throw a code. I'd check the fuel pressure on the fuel rail. If it drops to zero after you shut off the engine or wildly fluctuates while it's running, then that would be your culprit.

Re: Need help with this

and if it were the fuel pump , wudnt this problem be continuous ?

I changed the fuel filter and the Crankshaft sensor today and drove her around for about 5 miles and she seemed back to normal .

Fuel pump can cause all kinds of weird symptoms. If the check valve is bad, a hard start when it's cold would most likely be the symptom. But, spitting and sputtering, then dying sounds more like a delivery issue.

A fuel pressure gauge can be hooked up to the fuel rail via a valve with a plastic cap on it. Any shop that does tune ups should be able to check fuel pressure.
