Coolant level message

I am getting a "random" message that says "Top of Coolant".

When I check the coolant level it seems fine to me, although I didn't see any marks in the reservoir. It doesn't come on all the time, sometimes when I get up in the morning but then it's gone the next time I start the car.

I made a mark with a small marker on the reservoir when I got home today when it was hot to compare it when I start out tomorrow morning.

Is there any known issue with the coolant level sensor?

If not, anyone have an idea where coolant is going?

Anyone else with the same issue?

It has happened to others. I think there was a Technical Bulletin to MB dealers about this.

Re: Coolant level message

Update:

OK, I did check it when it cooled enough and i had dropped half an inch below the mark which didn't tell me much .

I added about 3/4 of a liter of distilled water...which was to the lip of the reservoir because I couldn't stop it fast enough...oops. I guess I'll take a little out.

I checked the oil and no signs of "milky" color or water on the dipstick, so it didn't go there.

How often should you have to top this off?

Where does the coolant go if it overflows from the reservoir? Doesn't seem to be a overflow tube anywhere that I can see.

Re: Coolant level message

Thanks Dutch,

I don't really think there is a a real problem either.

I have to drive it to Colorado Springs and I'll take it to the dealer for an oil change and all and have them look into it as well.

I might have to take a little coolant out now that added too much water in the reservoir.
