Georges ML350 Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | DIS-ASSEMBLING FRONT SEATS TO ML350 Hi all. I am currently in the process of installing an LCD monitor to the two front head rests. I will be running the cable through one of the support tubes for the headrest, to keep the cable out of view. Now comes the hard part. I need to be able to run the cable "through the seat", and need somehow to pull them apart. I started to pull out the edges of the plastic frame to the back of the front seats, but I am unsure if they just clip on, or there is some fastner that I cant see. I backed off, just in case I break something!! Can someone please tell me if they just clip on, and even if they do come off, will it enable access to the insides of the front seats. Thanks in advance. Cheers, George.

I am currently in the process of installing an LCD monitor to the two front head rests. I will be running the cable through one of the support tubes for the headrest, to keep the cable out of view. Are these OEM headrests? If so, the supports are not hollow tubes – they are solid steel. You’ll need to change them out with a hollow version if you want to run wires through them.

Hi Rodney. Yes, you are absolutely correct, and I should have spoken about the support tubes in my original post. I managed to secure a set of headrests from a wreck, which was the exact colour as mine. I did not want to cut up my originals. Here in South Austaralia, there are not many late model ML's being wrecked so I consider myself very fortunate. Anyway, my thought was to change the support without the position notches to a thick walled hollow tube, and then have it chrome plated. However I am unsure if this will compromise safety, as kindly noted by others. To my way of thinking it should be strong enough, but I will need to check up. Should this fail, I can simply run the video cable along the outside of the tube, and fasten it by some means. I will let you know how I get on with all of this. Cheers, George.

Don't work for me either ... must have got lost in the forum move to anothe server.... The are also in the WIS thread at the top of this forum!... Hi Peter. Thanks for the direction. I found what I needed in the info that you posted in your thread "Front Seat Covering Replacement" I note that the back cover is secured by fasteners / assembly 48-49-50. This is exactly what I was after, as I was unsure if there was anything else holding them on. Cheers mate. Regards, George

Just seems logical. Hi Philip Fair comment on the safety aspect. This is what I was able to find out today. I saw here in a local car A/V store, some after market headrests, which had the screen already installed. Very simmilar to what is on offer on ebay. I checked the supports, and one was solid (the one with the position notches), and the other was a fairly thick walled hollow tube (grade of steel ????) which had the cables passed through. I asked the salesman about the saftey / compliance, and he showed me the brochure which stated ADR Compliance No------- ADR stands for Australian Design Rules. So to my way of thinking, a hollow tube looks like it will be OK. Agreed, there is more to it than this, as obviously the tensile strength of the steel used is unknown to me, and the fixing system within the headrest. Regards, George.
