Brake Fluid Change With ABS

So, this is where everyone disappeared to!!

I was wondering what happened.

Hey, are there people who bleed their own brake (with ABS!) with the Motive system??

I've seen " You need pulsating bleeder for ABS" or "all you need is 15 psi".

With 3 cars with ABS, and I like to change fluid yearly (excessive heat/humitity down here really messes up the fluid quickly).

Of course safety is #1 priority, and I know the ABS components are $$$$$, but I also hate the dealership here.

Cheers,
Patrick

I have sucessfully bled ABS brakes with the Motive bleeder many times. To pass tech, to run in Porsche club events, you must flush brake fluid annually. I have done so and never had any problem regarding ABS or non ABS systems. They seem to respond the same durning brake system flushing.

RE: Brake Fluid Change With ABS

The purpose of the higher pressure used when bleeding ABS brakes it to open the internal valves in the ABS body and thus flush out the old fluid there too. 15 PSI is supposed to be high enough to do this without being so high as to cause leaks around the reservoir (&spraying brake fluid on the paint). Tehnically one is supposed to run some diagnostic on the ABS system that runs all the internal pumps. Actually exercising the ABS on a slippery road every once in a while ought to accomplish 80% of that goal.

What is the proper sequence to bleed the brakes?

According to wis, it says

1. right rear
2.left rear
3. right front
4. left front

This is the opposite of what I thought. I always thought closest first.

Does right mean driver side and left passenger side?

Farthest first, just like the WIS.

In the US, yes. In the UK, no.
