Where to find hose clamp...

Ok, I need a new hose clamp that goes on the intake of my ML320 CDI. The orginal one broke, and I replaced it with a generic one from the car parts place. It doesn't hold quite right because of the plastic tabs on the intake. It's supposed to hold the intake tube from the air filters onto the turbo.

The original clamp had small holes to fit (assuming to compress that seal correctly. I am getting oil on the turbo from this (still).

Anyone know part # and where to locate one? And maybe the seal would be good to know as well.

RE: Where to find hose clamp...

The EPC does not show that hose clamp, although you could try P/N A.000.995.97.10. That is the hose clamp that goes on the two ends of that intake pipe where it connects to the air filter boxes.

The seal is P/N A.642.094.00.80. If you order the seal, you might ask the parts guy to get the hose clamp specific to holding that intake pipe to the turbocharger.

Re: Where to find hose clamp...

I replaced the seal, but I didn't get it all the way on the first time.

I pushed pretty good on it tonight we'll see how it holds.

It's pretty tight trying to push it on there all the way.

Any tips? And I assume it is supposed to go all the way back to be flush with the turbo, correct?

I put the seal into the intake crossover pipe, lubed it with a bit of oil to slip it easily over the turbo inlet. It also works a lot easier if you have the air filter boxes pulled away from the intake pipe. You don't have to completely remove them. Just loosen the two hold down bolts and the hose clamps that hold them on the intake pipe; and pull them away to the side.

That seal fits perfectly into the intake pipe; and if lubed with a bit of oil (it's downstream from the MAF's, so there's not a worry), it should slide right onto the turbo without resistance. The resistance comes when it not sliding onto the turbo straight.

Re: Where to find hose clamp...

Good advice, I'll re-accomplish with your recommendations.

It is tight, fit. So perhaps it is not going on straight.

Re: Where to find hose clamp...

Well, replacing the seal and hose clampe did not fix the problem. I took it back to the folks that fixed the turbo valve, and apparently a seal inside the turbo is going. The oil lines are fine, but apparently I am dumping oil from someplace inside the turbo.

Any idea how much something like that would cost?

Or any other suggestions?

Also suggested that 10,000 miles was too long for oil changes...any thoughts?

MSRP for the turbo is $2800. You can get it from the right source for about $2200. Labor is certainly extra.

I change the oil on all my cars at 5,000 miles with the filter, or once a year on cars that don't do 5,000 miles in a year. I think this is especially important for these oils formulated with lower additive levels to protect the diesel particle filter. This and the fact that I really don't like Mobil 1 oils are, obviously, personal opinions.

Re: Where to find hose clamp...

Thanks,

I saw new turbo running for $2,200 out of Ft lauderdale after I posted my question. Those folks did me right when I ordered the hose clamp and seal. I ordered an extra sealing ring that I didn't need and they called to ask about it and set me straight. I really appreciated that.

I am considering having the mechanic send it off to have it rebuilt. Just from a general online search it will cost me about $300-$500 to have it rebuilt. It all depends on if I have it "upgraded". I might consider upgrades if it's only a few bucks more than a standard rebuild, as opposed to almost $3,000 for a new one.

I also will start changing the oil at 5,000 miles.

Any recommendations on turbo rebuild? yay, nay, or rebuilder?

Also, if you don't like the mobil 1, I know there are other european options, or even AMSOIl. What do you recommend?

No recommendations either way on new or rebuilt.

I didn't like the Mobil 1, but used it because it was the only oil I could easily find that met the MB spec for the diesel particle filter.

However, even though my Porsche Cayenne came with Mobil 1 installed from the factory, I switched to a non-Porsche-approved oil (Redline) on my first oil change. It's a gasser and doesn't require low additives for a particle filter.

Re: Where to find hose clamp...

Well I guess my plan is to get it rebuilt with some upgrades to see if it helps with spool up to decrease lag time.

If I can do that for cheaper than buying a new one that seems to be the way to go.

thanks for the input
