I had not seen it before. I already purchased a PAC interface - it is the SWI-PS http://www.pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=210&Category... So I will try that one, Karl can try the Metra he just ordered, and G1979 maybe can try the Dietz? Then we compare notes. I suspect the Dietz will come top, but let's see.

I have an '05 E320cdi with no sat radio and no iPod interface; and I've been reluctant to add it for the $$ that the dealer requires. This looks like a possible solution - totally non-gwagen related, but thanks anyway!

How is ypur experience with the unit, especially navigation? Reason I am asking is: In the 2002 G500 I bought a few weeks ago came with an Alpine unit installed. However, the maps for that unit are absolutely of date and according to Alpine support, Alpine wil NOT offer a map update. They offer an hardware update to their NVE-M300 "Navigation Drive" - however the reviews for that thing are everything but encouraging see http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500NVEM300/Alpine-NVE-M300.html?tp=147... How is ypur experience with the unit, especially navigation? Oskar, The Nav part is very good. The maps are from Tele Atlas, which is owned by Tom Tom. They are up-to-date as far as I can tell from looking at new roads in my neighborhood. The appearance of the maps is quite good. The user interface is also good, since there is a big touch screen to use. I also like the use of a speed signal from the G500 - it makes the Nav display much more accurate, especially in town, since it can determine your exact position using the street data and your speed data. It is much better than GPS on it's own. The trail recording feature is not as good as I was hoping. You are limited to about 1,000 points I think. Also, the format is proprietary to Pioneer, and you must use their software to view the tracks. It's better than nothing though. If you like, I can post some screen photos of maps, at your request, to show areas you know about. Overall, this is a really good unit, I wish I had changed earlier. I don't miss the Comand at all.

I installed a Kenwood unit in my 03 G500 that uses Garmin maps. they are up datable via Garmins web site or if one is so inclined free from Bittorrent users. Also Garmin has a large POI community covering every POI you could think of http://www.poi-factory.com/poifiles Here is my install thread http://www.pointedthree.com/disc/forums/showthread.php?tid=16098

The AM/FM antenna is on the rear-most driver's side window. It has an amplifier mounted in the headliner immediately above. The amplifier gets 12V from the Comand. So be sure to hook that wire to 12V if you put a new radio in, or else you will get weak FM and no AM. You can use the connection on the new radio for a powered antenna to get the 12V. Thanks to Fernweh for making me aware of this. We installed a Pioneer in his G500 last week and it only took about 3 hours or so. Also, the steering wheel button interface that Fernweh bought, the Axxess ASWC, worked very well. I bought one also. It lets you program vol+, vol-, phone on, phone off, and if you like you can use the up and down arrows on the left of the steering wheel for next/previous track/station (but if you do that, the instrument cluster menu scrolls up and down too).

So you make this as shown, then plug one end into the radio, the other end into your G500, and you are done. Much easier than trying to splice it all together behind the dash. Wow great news! I have a kenwood unit that I though I couldn't get steering wheel control. On there site it says it works with Kenwood headunits as well. Was it easy to install this extra component? also is it this model? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22808_Axxess+ASWC.html

Seems like you can keep the steering wheel buttons all working as they are labeled right? What about any interface between the COMMAND and the display screen in the speedometer?
