RE: Oil change

I used Mobile1 0W40  up to now ..... next time I'll be using that Shell stuff .... Can't remember what it was called.... something like  helix ....... we had a discussion a while back on the other forum , and I discovered my local MB Dealer is using it on the Diesel engines also.... It's the same as they use in the trucks ...... supposed to go longer!

Maybe wolfgang remembers what it was called ..... I'm not sure it was on his list!  Being used in the trucks also makes it damm cheap to buy!

Here you go!

http://shop.store.yahoo.com/parkplac...1trismoto.html

http://www.whnet.com/4x4/oil.html

Here it is

"
SHELL - Rimular Ultra 5W30"

The only pre-condition to using this oil is if the vehicle (only latest model diesels 2005?) have a "Particle Filter" (Exhaust system filter) fitted , then you must use mobile 1.

Wolfgang's reply:-

--------------------

That's a good oil. It complies with MB spec 228.5 which MB developed with Chevron for commercial diesel trucks. One of the first oils complying to this recommendation was Chevron Delo® XLD Multigrade 10W-40 in 1999.

For the diesels with soot particle filters there is no longlife Mobil 1 oil yet. So far there are two recommendations, 229.31 which is equivalent to 229.3 but with lower vapor pressure to keep the oil out of the filter, but reduced change intervals. And 229.51 which is a long life oil like 229.5 but with lower vapor pressure. So far only these oils comply to this latest 229.51 MB recommendation:

Aral SuperTronic 229.51 0W-40 LOW SAPS
Castrol Longtec Turbodiesel 0W-30 (229.51)
Fuchs TITAN GT1 229.51 SAE 5W-30 (first fill oil in OM 642)
Shell Helix Ultra AX 5W-30 Mercedes 229.51

Marcelc

-----------

I've been using Shell Helix Diesel Ultra 5W-40 which says on the can that it meets MB 229.3 and is fully synthesized.

Shell Rimula oils are mentioned on the Shell website (German) but conform to 228.nn instead of 229.nn which I suppose to be MB truck specifications, the top of the range Rimula Signia oil states that it can be used with and without particle filters and conforms to MB spec. 228.51.

The AX 5W-30 is perhaps too new to be mentioned at all, although it is hardly a credit to Shell that their oil appears on Ebay before it appears on their own web site!

 C-ROD

-----------

My last oil change at the dealership..they used 5W30, it was Shell Ultra Helix

...but remember I have a Diesel!!!!!

ML320 , Recommended shell Oils, 8 Liters :-

Very Good, HELIX ULTRA 5W-30

Good , HELIX PLUS 5W-40

 Acceptable, HELIX SUPER 10W-40
