ML 320 (W163, 2002) Radio Head Unit Change

Can anyone please help/advise me, I have acquired a double din DVD/GPS/CD radio unit, it has the identical ISO plug and when installed everything works except I have no sound, subsequently I have been informed that because I have the Bose system I can't conect it directly as the speakers are connected by Fibre optic, so what shoiuld have been a 20minute job now looks as if I will need a degree in Nuclear fusion!
Any adive/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Dave

Hello Dave,

please post some pictures of your aftermarket NAV unit and its plug.

The fiber optic system will not work any longer, you also loose the CD changer in the back and MB phone system, if it was installed.

I like to do the same type of an upgrade in the future, also the ML speaker are 2 OHM ones, you need to change out the Amp to work with them or change all the speaker and install new speaker wiring to replace the fiber optic cables.

Hi Karl, many thanks for the reply, the unit is an XTRONS TD717G - DVD/gps unit, it uses the standard Merc ISO plug so powers up and everything works bril - except the sound.
Looking at a complete speaker change and rewire, but wont be able to use any of the Bose spkrs, have acquired some very good 6ohm spkrs with built-in tweeters & crossovers so might take the plunge and rewire the complete system. Cheers Dave
PS. Will let you know how I get on!
