Looks like it was hit pretty hard may have a bent frame with that much damage Looking at the picture more I would probably not go with that. It looks like the front end is bent up pretty good meaning you would probably have to get one smacked in the rear to fix this. Also most likely it is a totaled or salvaged vehicle meaning that getting a new title for it is going to be tough. I tried it with a motorcycle once and the process was over a year. You have to have before pictures. Work in progress pictures. Reciepts of all parts and work done then they make sure it is safe and also not stolen. I gave up about mid point and sold it as a parts bike and lost about 3K in parts. If you are a body shop owner they yea maybe but not for a private party.. Edited by 230G 6/1/2006 12:50 PM

My guess? $25-30k to repair it; and then you may still have a "bum" vehicle. If the damage is as little as the recycler seller is trying to intimate, it would be worth much more than the asking price as a parts car - especially to a recycler. There's something bad wrong with it.

The only way I would buy it is if the body (firewall & back) was in pristene condition and the alignment was still perfect. That would leave you with just sheetmetal and mechanical replacements. I very much doubt that is the case.

The damage to my car was nowhere near what you can see in the picture in your link and my repairs did not involve anything more than what you might call shell items relating to the front end (bumper, fender, grill, brush guard, headlight brackets, etc) and no 'internals' like radiator, trans cooler, etc. which have obviously been compromised in this vehicle. Given the apparent amount of intrusion into the engine compartment in the picture (and I agree that the picture looks calculated to hide the worst of the damage as alluded to in another post) there is absolutely no way that this car doesn't have frame alignment problems. Given my unfortunate experience and the cost of that repair, I think Dutch's estimate is pretty realistic.

KERR Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Re: Worth it to repair? that looks like the typical, I ran out of money and opps i hit a tree or telephone pole one accident dead center. from the looks of the one picture it will need all the body parts from the door forward, radiator, fan's ac unit and condincer, oil lines etc... and thats if you lucky, i bet it also needs both bags.

I was thinking the engine and drivetrain would be worth more than the asking price! :err: And if that's the case, why is a recycler (read salvage yard) selling it so cheap? My guess is the engine, front axle and some of the drive line are flummoxed.

Having worked for a "recylcer" in my past, most prefer to get the quick easy buck if they can. It is much easier to have it sit in the yard in one piece and get $12 grand in one shot then to pay a dismantler to dismantle, inventory, package and store dozens of parts. Then deal with enviro and finally crush it and ship it the the grinder. Sure, they can get a lot more in the long run, but you never know when that money might materialize. I remember going through one of the storage areas (old school bus) throwing out old inventory of vega door panels and Pinto hoods that people in 1993 just were not buying.

I didnt plan to fix it, i was just going to drive it. chicks dig body damage On a side not, with a hit like that to the front what are the chances of the motor moving back and busting the Trans and T case. I know we pay for a lot of diffs and transmission in GM trucks when they medium front impacts.
