rubber mounts....

well as i'm approaching a wheel bearing job in the future... for trucks with over 100k miles i recall others recommend to replace rubber mounts for the transfer case and other areas? If anybody know which and what mounts... how many? Were there any tricks in particular? i seem to recall something about how or when the bolts are tightened down again.

Would it make sense to have drive shafts balanced at the same time for the sake of it?

RE: rubber mounts....

Erik,

I replaced the motor and transmission mounts. I'm sure the xref case mounts are coming up soon. The front suspenson rubber was shot too. Some of this wear may have been due to too many miles of desert washboard.

Diesels are hard on motor mounts. Your V8 is quite a bit smoother.

RE: rubber mounts....

Your TRANSFER CASE has 3 mount : front, left and right. They look absolutely similar, but there are specific part numbers for front left and right transfer case mounts. Do not confuse them !
FRONT- 463 280 03 86
REAR LEFT 463 280 0186
REAR RIGHT 463 280 0286
I usually mark them before installation. Installation is easy and required only hand tool and jack from your tool kit.
DIY time about 45 minutes.
Instead of older G-Class (300GE, G320) you ENGINE MOUNTS are the same for the left and right side and you have much better access to replace them.
You TRANSMISSION MOUNT is the same as Transmission mount on S-Class W220, easy to replace and not expensive.

Re: rubber mounts....

Eric, in my opinion it is age, not milage that kills the mounts. And how rough the truck has been treated off road or in the concrete jungle. I really doubt you have an issue with such a new vehicle. Do you have vibration or looseness to indicate the need to replace the parts? I would inspect them. The T case mounts on my truck are stock '85 parts and still do the job. The mounts on the 463 are improved and better and the drivelines are far better and free from vibration. If it isn't broken.... why fix it?
