FS - Rear seat removal/install tool

Selling the one on the left. Right is the prototype I had a shop make. If there are enough orders for the one on the right I can make them. $50

RE: FS - Rear seat removal/install tool

A few years ago, another member made several. There was so little interest, that he ended up giving many of them away to friends and indie MB shops in his area.

RE: FS - Rear seat removal/install tool

I take it that this tool is used as part of removing the seat from the base hinge?

Yes. It's used to slightly compress the pressure struts in the hinge mechanism so they can be removed from and reinstalled on the mounting pins.

Be sure to get the one that is made like the attached diagram. The reverse won't work.

Have you tried it yet? They can be tricky to use sometimes.

I have one of the batch that the fellow in NC made a while back. It required a bit of tweaking to get it to do the job.

Re: FS - Rear seat removal/install tool

Hi Dutch,

No, but the interior of my Son's 93 is being redone, so I gave it to the upholstery shop to use. They already had the seat's out, so I'll have to wait for them to put them back in. I'll post in a few weeks when I get it back.

RE: FS - Rear seat removal/install tool

Here are the pics, as you can see the reversed prototype tool will work just the same. How many names are we up to now?

If you're having them made, why not make them like is shown in the MB WIS?

I can also tell you from direct first hand experience that you want a little curvature in the short end to help hold the rounded end of the compressed strut in place; and, as the WIS diagram shows, the short end also has side barriers to keep the strut from sliding out to the side. Take a close look at the diagram of the tool in use in the upper right corner of the WIS page to see what I mean.

Those little struts are under a lot of pressure, and are difficult to compress without their wanting to slip out of the tool.
