BOERNE ML320 Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Door Lock Issue Group, 1) Are the lock assemblies repairable? My fear is that they are going to attempt a repair just to get it past the 30 day warranty. We do however have an extended warranty that will cover this but is the MaxCare warranty worth a flip? We should be able to take it to the dealer but with a higher deductable $75 vs. $50 Edited by BOERNE ML320 6/8/2006 11:52 PM

It's a simple job that will however require you to drill out the rivets holding the rear window rail. ... No the lock (actuator) is not repairable .... It's a complete unit that gets replaced (not that expensive either!) Good luck! ..... PS: This problem seem to be in the category "wear and tear" with ML's .....

I have pictures up to the removeal of the airbag... :err: Why do you need to remove the airbags to change the lock. The lock will slide out the bottom without the need to touch the airbags or at least that's how it was on my car. Just curious?

Since this seems to be a common problem, I'd hope someone would have them. Got the panel off without breaking a single clip and saw the airbag and turned around (call me chicken....). put it back together but am reluctant to take it to the dealer. $400.00+ for the repair is a bit outrageous IMHO. Thanks.

It is now fixed. Worth a shot. Hi guys, I have a "machine gun" lock on the front passenger door of a 2000 ML 430 with side air bags. I can't actually lock the car at the moment because of this. I have some graphite so I'm happy to give this a go, but where do I spray the graphite? Do you have to remove the lock actuator to do this? If this doesn't work I was wondering if I could simply disconnect that actuator as an interim fix ( so I can at least lock the car) - any opinions or suggestions ? Thanks, Kevin Melbourne, Australia

Pastarnac New user Date registered: Jan 2012 Location: Vehicle(s): Posts: 1 | Lock actuator can be repaired The door actuators - root cause for the machine gun noise- can be repaired with less then $10 (using epoxy glue) and some patience. Problem with these actuators is that they have a poor mechanical stack-up, to little travel of the microswitches. The plastic cams who are pushing the microswitches are made of plastic and they wear out. In the end, the microswitch is not actuated and even the door system is closed the feedback to the computer is sending a signal that the door is not closed, therefore the computer imitiates another close cycle. Take the actuator out of the door and open it (it can be opened and closed back w/o problems). Identify the cams that are pushing the microswitches. Add little epoxy on the cam surface ( about 1mm, no more) to compensate for the wear out. Let it dry, eventually file it to for a smooth surface Install everything back. It should work.
