RE: flat towing

Depends....Is is a full time 463 t-case or the older part time 460 t-case? 461s came equipped both ways as far as I know. If the t-case shifter only has S-N-G in a row like that it is full time and NO, do not flat tow it. If it has the "J" shaped shift pattern it is a part time 460 and you can flat tow.

RE: flat towing

you could flat tow either as long as you removed whichever drive shafts would input to the t-case and tranny correct? 463's would require both drive shafts removed for example.

RE: flat towing

The 460 needs the front drive shaft to drive the oil pump in the transfer case, even if in neutral. So, I would think if you removed the front drive shaft, you would want to remove the rear one as well so as to stop all movement of the transfercase. It would also not be a great idea to lift the front of a G (leaving the rear wheels on the ground) and tow the vehicle in this position, unless you removed the drive rear drive shaft.

The smartest thing to do for longer distances = trailer or flat-bed truck it.
