Help needed with the installation position of rear transverse link

Could one of you duck under the back right of your G and see which way the transverse link is installed? The end knuckles have a bump on one side. This would point either up or down. I didn't record which way it was installed. It doesn't seem to want to go in either way. The transverse link has a bend in it that seems to be intended to clear the differential, though it would clear either direction.

I think that you can only see the underside of the knuckle. If you can't see the bump on the knuckle that probably just means that it is pointed up.

RE: Help needed with the installation position of rear transverse link

Well I've decided the bump must point down. Some confirmation would be helpful though.

RE: Help needed with the installation position of rear transverse link

Hey Alan, the link on my truck doesn't seem to have the bump on the knuckle feature that yours has. I didn't see anything on the bottom and felt around on the top and it was smooth. I will take photos to see if my link can help position yours. I'll get a couple of images up here and hopefully that will help you.

RE: Help needed with the installation position of rear transverse link

Hi Alan,

the link is different on mine - it is bend slightly around the differential and has a metal tab on the left side which points down.
maybe somebody else has your answer.

Is This The "Bump" ?

It's down on the end that attached to the axle. This is on my G500.

FWIW, can't see top or bottom on the end attached to the body; and, obviously, the bend in the rod is intended to clear the diff.

Is there one rubber bush or two per mount?

Re: Help needed with the installation position of rear transverse link

Alan, here are a couple of images of my link's right rear connection. I suspect the SWB trucks have a different setup than the LWB's because mine has no bend to clear the diff as has been described. Mine has bends at the ends and follows the tank by the diff. No bend in the middle. I hope this can be of some help.

I'm having trouble loading photo files. I need to figure out how to get the file size smaller.

RE: Is This The "Bump" ? --- YES

Thanks guys. That is the bump I was referring to. Perhaps I could have described it better. With some persuasion from a 3' pipe wrench I got the bolts back in. 500 miles later it still seems correct.

The reason I replaced the bushing is that the right side bushing was not centered in the arm. As a result the arm contacted the frame occasionaly.

For those contemplating replacing these bushings, I have one recomendation: Replace the whole arm. It comes with the bushings and the bushing shells are very fragile. The old bushing was damaged during installation (by someone else). I wrecked the first replacement bushing trying to press it in. The second bushing went in better. The problem is that the bushing shell is very thin and it takes ~10 tons to push the bushing in. You will need to make up a custom sleeve that matches the profile of the bushing in order to get it in there without damage.

Re: Help needed with the installation position of rear transverse link

Ze, yes they are very similar in the SWB trucks. Do the LWB trucks have a center bend to clear the diff or are they similar to the SWB links?
