Re: Weird throaty noise during acceleration

At your mileage and age of the vehicle it should fall into the federal law that major emissions related parts have to last 8 years or 80,000 miles. So you will be fine if a cat is failing.

What's TITTFD?

Am I out of luck since it won't be under the recall (if it really is the cats)?

Re: Weird throaty noise during acceleration

In the USA I think the law for all 50 states is a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty on the cats. But I have never heard of a 02+ having cats go bad. Could it be related to the load from the a/c compressor I am sure that sucker is on where you live by now. I use mine all year round only going to be 108F tomorrow cant wait for 113 on wed.

Actually the A/C is rarely on over here. It's either in AC Off, or we just crack the windows or sunroof a bit. It's only been averaging about 60-70 here.

In fact as I'm typing this, it's only around 55-60.

We are in a cold snap in the upper midwest. Only a high of 65 here in southern WI.

Oh snap. Now it's only a matter of my parents feeling like going to the dealer to see if it's actually the cat. converter.

What would happen if it does have a crack, and it's left like that for a while?
