No start after disconnecting battery.

SO I wanted to see the condition, age and overall aspects of the Battery in my G500 to get a better idea of how I can hook up a winch in the future. So I ended up disconnecting the battery to take a look around and after I hooked it back up, the starter would never turn over I ended up disconnecting everything again and recleaning everything making sure everything was correct. Still no love, 12Volts, even hooked up a charger, still nothing the Key turned but no starter sounds.

After about an hour of searching Fuse #57 located below the glove box was blow, simple blue fuse. I'm not sure why as I never tried starting until everything was hooked up again but I did move the seats around with it loosely connected, but they always worked.

In any case the little white paper in the fuse panel helped A463 545 06 00 and a new blue fuse to the rescue.

Just a few keywords to help others maybe in the future.
Starter won't turn over, no start, replacement battery, new battery, fuze

RE: No start after disconnecting battery.

Still no start?  Or, the fuse fixed it?

Re: No start after disconnecting battery.

Yes this fuse fixed the issue. This post was more of a FYI to others incase they see the same issue come up. I was stumped and confused for about an hr. Looking to provide back when I can.

To be honest this car has a lot of fuses all over the place, like the ones next to the passenger seat they aren't exactly easy to reach.

RE: No start after disconnecting battery.

In my experience, it's not uncommon for fuses to blow when a battery is disconnected and replaced with a new one. The inrush current for charging the electrolytic capacitors and/or the initialization current in the various connected modules can be quite high.

RE: No start after disconnecting battery.

I had a similar experience.

After leaving the Mercedes dealership with a little powerful take off, the engine on my 2004 G500 just quit.

I was able to roll onto the Sales Lot, and with the help of some guys, got pushed into the Service Dep.

A lots of mechanics around the open hood, and I pulled out my spare CPS ....nada. Engine would turn over, but no start.

Star system did not show a fault, lots of great opinions.......but no start.

Checked all the important fuses, fuel system ignition....all good, but no start.

Finally, one of my mechanic friends, start checking all the fuses under the glove box.......and one 10A fuse was open.

One new fuse installed......and the engine started like nothing had happened.

So the professional opinion: During my Cavalier take off, the engine moved more then normal, and some wires in the engine harness shortened out, and burned that fuse.

It again happened to me after many years, I completely forgot about it, and just before calling the expensive tow truck (500 miles to the border) I did remember it......new fuse, great running engine again.

Never found the culprit wires in that harness.
