When you insert the key instead of that nice healthy one second "buzz" it now makes a slightly longer somewhat anemic sort of buzz. Removing the key produces a healthy buzz like always. The truck still starts, but from what I have read on the web about other MBs that use the same system, this could be a sign of impending doom. Has anyone else on the forum had their ESL fail. If so, what did you send up doing about it? I strongly suspect that ESL is a dealer only affair since a new module needs to be programmed to talk to the Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS). Since I think MB considers both of these parts Theft Related Items, I'm sure only the dealer can do the programming. If anyone has any additional info or insight please post. Thank you ! | ||

I traded it in and got a low miles 2014 Black/Black G550. I will miss the Tektite Grey color, the M113/722.6 combination, and the shear ruggedness and simplicity of the earlier Gs, but the care and feeding of the new G will be a lot less than the '03 and that is something that I need right now at this point in my life. As much as I enjoyed it, my ability to do things like pulling a front axle assembly on jack stands to replace the pinion bearings is just not what it used to be.
