Star Diagnostic-tool. Works Great

Hi Everyone,
I recently purchased the item below, I hooked it up for the first time on my 2002 G500, tonight.
My friend who is a MB dealer mechanic told me it’s the same system they were using st the dealer, they just updated.

I hooked it up tonight, it diagnosed all fault codes, tested controls, told me things to look for and I then used it to clear all codes.

It tells me that my ABS, EPS, brake light error is a faulty brake pressure sensor. My friend the MB mechanic tells me that is located on the front of the brake booster, lower right side, facing booster in engine compartment.

The only thing I had to do was connect it to my WiFi and get my friend to show me how to operate it. It does not come with instructions on its usage. However it is loaded with all operating software.

Re: Star Diagnostic-tool. Works Great

I just got that one as well. After a short learning curve, it has worked perfectly on my '99 E300 and 2000 G500. I just picked up a $55 knockoff pelican case from HF for my knockoff Star.

Re: Star Diagnostic-tool. Works Great

My old Thinkpad T30 STAR system bit the dust a few years ago and I have been going without. Thank you for the review.

Does this unit have EPC as well?

Re: Star Diagnostic-tool. Works Great

I would like to thank the P3 member for the original post about he Star diagnostic system and also thank Dutch for sending it to me.

The individuals who take the time to post their knowledge, research and resources on this site are what makes this site and G ownership so great.

Thank you both.

Re: Star Diagnostic-tool. Works Great

I have not tried the epc yet. I have a epc subscription and MB is switching things over, so I thought I’d wait awhile before trying it on this machine.

Yes, a big thanks to those who took the time to share the information and vendor! It was less of a leap of faith to have real peoples experience before ordering from this company.

The system works great! The EVG7 has access to WIS and EPC in addition to DAS/ Xentry for diagnosis plus other features that I haven’t had a need for yet. I don’t have much prior experience with other/older systems so I’m reluctant to say how much faster this is over those. The customer service aspect is a question mark for me, I haven’t used it. Mine came loaded with everything needed and some instructive pdf’s and video files but no real instructions. My EPC/WIS defaulted to German, it took a bit a playing around to switch it to English. The multiplexer connects to car with an assortment of cables, 38pin for me. The multiplexer connects to the windows based EVG7 with WiFi or LAN cable, currently using the cable. Updates are done by new hard drive, ordering and shipping from the site above.

Others that have had more experience with it feel free to chime in.

Thanks again.

Matt

Currently using it to track down an intermittent DAS canbus communication issue on my E300.

Does this unit provide the ability to reprogram for handling larger tires on 2002+ trucks?

RE: Star Diagnostic-tool. Works Great

Does it work with the new ISPPI System?

Just received the new log-in information for the ISPPI along with a 64 page instruction book on how to use it.

Re: Star Diagnostic-tool. Works Great

Folks - Rookie here … could someone please suggest a best diagnostic tool and where to buy it (and correct terminology to use when asking question on diagnostic tool/software). Perhaps shade some light on differences between STAR/DAS/XENTRY EVG7, WIS, EPC, etc.? Thanking you kindly.

STAR/DAS/XENTRY are all variations of the vehicle diagnosis program.
EVG7 is the tablet that runs all the software
WIS is the Workshop Information System that gives instructions on how to do various repairs.
EPC is the Electronic Parts Catalog, which I think has been discontinued and replaced by another database.

There are several Chinese sellers of cloned software and hardware. Some are good and some are terrible. The one linked in the OP is one that has been used by several members here with good success.

Re: Star Diagnostic-tool. Works Great

Thank you.

While on the topic - Would someone please point me to a step-by-step procedure on how to program what components, so that 33" tires will work on G550 seamlessly, I would greatly appreciate it.

Wishing all thread members and their families a very best of the season. 2020 has been terrible to say the least

Re: Star Diagnostic-tool. Works Great

The web site shows so many selections to choose from.
Which one is the preferrred one for the MBenz Gwagen?
After digging in, I think this is the one: https://www.obd2buy.com/421-511-v202012-c4-mb-sd-connect-with-evg7-t...

That is the same one I have and used on a 2015, 2018 G.

Just make sure you get the ssd not the hdd. SSD is much faster.
