It looks like I will be able to wiggle it out between motor and frame rail then replace on bench and reinstall. Has anyone tried this method? see attached for aluminum arm I am referencing. Remove the top bolt of each motor mount. Jack the motor up keeping an eye on the end of the motor/trans bell housing as it get jacked up towards the fire wall (remember you only need to clear the top bolt of the motor mount) Then remove the 2 bolts under the mount and wiggle it out. Install is reverse procedure. Be sure to put #68 back in place as well.

Rereading your initial post, there may be nothing wrong with your G. Many shops would be happy to sell you a $1200 repair tho.

My initial concern was all the removal parts and pieces from the top to be able to get to the top bolt of the motor mount under the exhaust manifold. In the end, I just followed the WIS procedure. I would like to know if there are any tips or tricks for removing and replacing the nuts on the studs on the underside of exhaust manifold. I ended up laying on my back with a 10mm open wrench as that is all the would fit on some. Surely not what Hans and Franzs had in mind when they designed it. Other than pretty straight forward just time consuming. Lesson learned. The WIS does not direct at what stage to remove exhaust manifold. It only directs to remove front exhaust pipe in step 23. which per the picture it is the down pipe from the exhaust manifold. I loosened the exhaust manifold after removing coil packs since I was in the area. If I ever have to do it again I would loosen and remove the exhaust pipe and then go forward and remove the exhaust manifold. I cannot see how you could complete the job without removing the exhaust manifold? Otiswesty - The dealer indicated worn or loose motor mount during a previous inspection. I did inspect myself and the motor was lifting up on the drivers side when it was revved by 1-2 inches. Enough movement to cause concern or do all 463s do this? Upon inspecting the mount on the bench it does not visually appear worn and it certainly was not loose. I needed a breaker bar and 3 foot pipe to break the top nut loose. I still need to complete the visual inspection with motor running and see if it is still lifting/moving under acceleration. G4me

I have video if you want to see my failed mount test. I had a shop do mine, and based on what they charged I don't think they had to remove any exhaust parts. A Mercedes indy shop should be well versed in this.

Noticed vibrations when driving up some highway mountain passes the other day. Did a motor mount test--Here is the video: https://photos.app.goo.gl/zc1A3HQQTEb1sn1y8 Looks abnormal to me, but what do I know? Opinions please. 1. Also, how many motor mounts are there? 2. Any thoughts about replacing transmission mount, too? Thank you. Edited by Desert Fox 4/21/2022 1:44 PM

There are main trapezoidal mounts to either side of the engine. I think the mount #26 is on the back of the trans, but not completely sure. The motor will jump up much higher than that when the mount is split. Now, your mount could be collapsed. But, I don't know that assuming your vibration issues are due to motor mounts is the right conclusion. Tire balance, center shaft failure, tie rod worn- those would be where I'd look first. Motor, trans, t-case mounts do contribute to vibrations I've been told- but I've not experienced vibes due to these myself.
