Well , this must be the worst workmanship I ever saw on an ML! At least the measurements will help everyone else looking to do an update to MY98-01 Vehicles.....

redeye Date registered: Jun 2006 Location: Calgary Vehicle(s): | RE: FACELIFT BUMPER UPDATE - FRONT Besides the shocking metalwork, the actual bumper fit is incredible - that gap is tighter that any W163 I've seen: even the facelift bumpers have a fairly substantial gap. I wonder how that works out with body flex and rubbing the bumper vs fender... Unfortunately, the bodyshop that fitted mine cut off the bumper to fender mounting tab on the bumper: saw it when I picked it up, I wasn't happy about it but the bumper fits with a smaller gap than the originals so I left it at that. Agreed! I wouldn't rely on my post above , but consider it as a guide when relocating the brackets!. I wouldn't remove the old brackets , but make new ones, and bolt them to the bumper as troy suggested , marking the postion on the cross member.... this is gives no room for error!.

I wonder how that works out with body flex and rubbing the bumper vs fender.... If you put a thin felt tape between the bumper and fender, would be ok? my ML is the pre-facelifted one, and sometimes the gap annoys me.. but i try to live with it :P I'm wondering what about the other cars that has tight gap between fenders and bumpers (body flex and rubbing wise).. cuz i've heard somewhere tighter gap = better quality? i could be wrong...

Mklasse Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: FACELIFT BUMPER UPDATE - FRONT I'd definitely save the pictures for future refference if i'm going to do this mod. I'm also wondering, what about the AMG bumpers? are they using the pre-facelifted or facelifted mounting positions? Thanks Pleubner!

Very detailed information will follow in the next few weeks! There is no brackets , or bolts, or holes to relocate..... The ML55 was introduced in 2000 when the original bumper existed... To mount the front bumper you do however need 2 new vertical brackets. The side brackets have also changed, but you can use the old ones!. ... hang on ... I'm just reducing res on some pics ..... (I will make photos of all the AMG parts soon)

It doesnt get bolted on to the cross member directly. There is a plastic inside piece that fits into the bumper cover this plastic, then both the plastic piece and the bumper cover get mounted onto those new vertical brackets....
Here is a picture of the plastic inside "sleeve" of the AMG Bumper. I don't think you guys would find it much fun if I started to just post "before" & "after" pics of my mods/repairs?.... Ok now I've let off some steam .... and my blood pressure is back to normal .....
