New Rims and Tires for my ML

19x9.5 Monet Gothics on 285x45x19 Continental 4x4 SportContacts. Tomorrow she goes in for alignment. The fittment is excellent - flush with the flares and really gives the truck a better stance. I do think that to get that perfect look, I'll have to lower it about 2" - we'll see soon. Right now, I want to gage tire wear, adjust pressure appropriately then go for the slam!!! I have a couple of pics - if I did this right!!!

How do I submit multiple pics? From this pic, you see why I'm willing to lower some 2"

RE: New Rims and Tires for my ML

Here's what it looked like before the mod. They both look quite nice but the OEM was "tucked in" too much or my taste.

She's beautiful! Those rims work nicely, and with the Sport Package. Impressive.

Once you upload one pic, that Browse box should be there again.

Thanks man. I'll try to upload some more pics. The beauty of the set-up is that the rim/tire package wasn't really that expensive (it's a one-piece with a 3-piece look), and better yet, each set weighs about 3lb less than the OEM with about 1/2 wear on the dDunlop tires. Flaky or not, after a 50mile run, my trip computer was registering 20.2 on the new set. Never went past 19 on the old ones - could it be that a combination of less weight and rolling more feet/revolution is what's causing this very acceptable efficiency??

For me I think 2" is just about right, and there are several reasons for this. First of all, I like to drive the truck regularly, so I don't want any rubbing. Then, the most offroading I've done is what you see in Pic #1, so I don't need the large clearance. Thirdly, I still want to maintain the 4x4 truck look!!! Any lower than 2", I think will be problematic or me. I have the feeling you're in a similar situation. I have been posting here and at B'World and have had a lot of responses on how to do this. I think that the fronts with the torsion bar will do the trick and then lowering springs for the rear - all in about 6months!!

Congrats on your new wheels, they do look nice! What's the offset on the rims?

The offset is 37mm with spacers to clear the front calipers. The spacers aren't just tacked on. I worked with the vendor and they custom sized the spacers for the vehicle. They are machined form a hunk of high strength alluminum and then pressed into the rim. So far so good. Only time will tell but a couple of people who've done same on their 500 have told me no problems at all with well over 15K combined miles.

Re: New Rims and Tires for my ML

I got them from nitrousgarage.com - an outfit out west. Real nice people. The tires were from The Rack, through nitrousgarage. Nitrousgarage mounted and balanced everything and then installed on a ML500 with flares like mine. They called me to tell me how it fit before anything was shipped. Shipmet included proper lugs (longer than stock) and center caps. Really not a bad deal.

Does anyone know who makes Monet rims??

I can't really tell. Do you have the blue start center caps, or the silver star center caps?

And what's with the kangaroo thing. What did I miss?

It's the silver star. The Kangaroo thing is no big deal. Follow this thread: http://www.pointedthree.com/disc/forums/showthread.php?tid=2385&mid...
