"S" Mode on Breakin

With all the attendant paperwork, etc., in picking up my car, I didn't notice that the transmission was in "S" mode. I drove home on the Thruway at 65 mph, and the tach was at a fairly low reading. Can I continue the running-in procedure in "S," or should I switch to "C"? I want to do this right, even though I believe the oil consumption problem to have been solved in the '06 models. Thanks. RE: "S" Mode on Breakin

i'm not sure it matters,
those that did have problems were never confined to one or other mode if i recall.
some babied their cars, others ragged them.

Thanks, gentlemen. I will keep a watchful eye on the tach, and leave it in "S." Since our winter season is over (though it's quite brisk here today!), I see no reason to keep the trans. in the "winter" mode. Dinoman

Dinoman and others, the C mode is great when you're in stop and go traffic regardless of how many miles you have on your car.

Never tried C mode. Standard for me, does get a little jerky at low speeds.

The manual suggest using C as the "preferred" setting for the break in period and it is not required. The main reason is in C it upshifts at a lower RPM. So you are less likely to pass the recommended 2/3 of maximum RPMs. Page 293 of the manual.

I rarely used (or use) C in my 350 or my 55 for the break in period.

"others ragged them."

That's me that is!

Driving it as fast as I dare until I learnt how to drive it really fast was enough break in period.

Re: "S" Mode on Breakin

I read the manual before delivery and have been driving in C mode. The car was also on C mode when it was delivered. So far I have about 600 miles (960 km) and the shifting has been imperceptable to me. I only notice the shifting by looking at the tachometer. I will be changing the S mode after the break-in or run-in period.
