couldn't put my 300GD in gear

hello all: I am hoping someone out there can help....
several days ago, I cannot put my 300gd into gear. I started the car, but I cannot shift into 1st or 2nd gear. however when car is off, I can shift no problem. so I put the G into 1st gear and start. the G start to roll forward even I have clutch in. eventually the G started and can be driven. however when I shifted, I can only pull the gear out from 1st and cannot put it into 2nd. actually the first time it happened was in the morning but after I jerked around it for a while (I didn't remember what exactly I did), it was normal again. it happened again the same day in the evening after I have driven it for a while. I suspect it is the clutch not able to engage?? the clutch feel the same without getting heavier or lighter. anyone has suggestion?

Clutch slave and/or master cylinders need to be replaced. Either or both being defective could cause the symptoms you describe.

RE: couldn't put my 300GD in gear

thanks Dutch...do you think these clutch cylinders (master or slave) will be avaliable in North America. Are they easy to find? Are they the same as other MB? Or is there any aftermarket parts avaliable? Do you have the OEM part number for these cylinders? Thanks...

Sean at Eurotruck in Oakwood, GA can help you. He likely has the parts in stock. Ph 770-965-3311

Check the fluid level in the clutch system. Bleed the system with pressure and try to determine where the problem is.

RE: couldn't put my 300GD in gear

Just as an alternative suggestion I had similar when the rubber bushes under the gear lever linkage fell apart, It felt like it was in gear although it would pull out of gear ok,but the rubber had perished and crumbled away so was nt allowing the gear linkage to work correctly, for a couple of weeks i had to really push it into gear by snatching at it and quick gear changes before i actually sorted it. they were very cheap too about £3 for 6 worth checking first
