Trip Report (with new rims/tires)

Had the alignment done on thursday and on friday was off, 800 miles to Altanta, GA. Rim/tire set-up worked perfectly (I don't think I'll even reconsider 17 inchers anymore for this truck!!!). Anyway, somewhere near Greensboro, SC, a very very large bird made a 80mph contact with my truck on passenger side bumper - couldn't avoid it due to traffic. Damage: fog light cover gone, front airdam gone (the Sport and 55 have front air dams), headlamp washer thingy cover gone, a couple of clips gone that hols styrofoam behind bumper gone. Mostly cosmetic damage, no major bumper damage except for one clip that holds the airdam. Good thing I had the 3M cover on the headlamp, otherwise that would have been gone also - I noticed today that the impact was on the passenger side headlamp and the plastic cover took all of it. Anyway, all to a mighty $400 worth of damage. I will get the parts and do it in my garage. Pleubner, help - any diagrams to lead me will be quite helpful.

BTW, yes, the rim/tire package is really giving me about 1.5mpg better than the OEM EVO-II that were there before - this is from actual #gallons used vs #miles driven. I averaged about 20 going and 19 coming back. Average speed going, maybe 70, coming back no less than 85.

Yep. I had the entire front and rear package done. It's worked out really well for me. If you do do it, make sure to get a certified installer - makes all the difference!!

Thanks Alroumi, and when it's lowered, I'll let you know. The bird thing will cost me little to repair - it really is a DIY as soon as I get the parts.

BTW, does anyone know how the headlamp washer cover attaches to the rest of the mechanism? That one I haven't figured out yet!!

What happened to the bird?

Well, there was a 18-wheeler on my right, anothe one behind it, two cars behind me on the left lane and the darn bird was sanwiched in that whole mess. I did all I could to avoid it without causing an accident and I feel bad because I've never hit any living thing on the road (except bugs of course!!!). Would've made good dinner though!!!

ML55 Fog light removal

Here is the fog light removal .... it's a bayonet style fixture.

.... Sorry I was offline for a bit!.

I noticed the headlight washers got a little battering also ... as well as missing covers ... so I took the liberty of posting the replacement for those as well.

PS: Let's hope you didn't damage the telescopic nozzle itself .... those return springs must have gotten ripped off!.

Thanks, I appreciate the response. I did check last night and saw the info. I also went over your bumper upgrade "write-up" You say the headlight washer seems damaged. I tested them at my next gas stop after the incident and both sprayed quite well. Seems like it's working OK. What do you notice that I don't, other than the cover?

RE: Trip Report (with new rims/tires)

Oh... maybe I didn't use the right words..... I assumed that the Washers are affected because the covers are removed. The covers are connected to the washers and held down with springs (see WIS) .

This means that if they were ripped off, then possibly the attachment parts (hindges, plastic parts where springs go in , etc... all those sections of the washers where the lid & springs attach to) are broken.

What I meant was to check the washer unit for the places where the cover attaches to , as well as the section where the springs connect to.
