NEW FEATURE: Ask the Parts Guru

We now have access to most part numbers thanks to our very own partmaster and his crystal ball.
So no matter how obscure the part he/she reckons thay can supply the relevant number.

So as a challenge I had this exchange earlier in this afternoon.

[me] Oh partsmaster, pray tell, what would be the correct number for the little rubber grommets that hide the screws which affix the ashtray and cupholder in place?

[partsmaster] Ah grasshopper, enlightenment you seek...

[me] LOL cut the mystical sh*t and quit stalling, do you or do you not know it?

[partsmaster] one moment... The numbers you require are A171 826 00 94. Go in peace.

[me] smart ar*e

so there we have it our own parts guru. So fire away, anybody have any part numbers they want to know, drop them into this thread and i'll forward em on...

Oh whats that partsmaster... "you cannot guarantee the accuracy of info, always check with your dealer"
okey dokey.

We might even sticky this if it proves to be popular!

Front strut part numbers

The rear shocks on the R171 have the part numbers stamped into the tube. The front struts don't have a similar part number designation. How can you confirm the part number of a front strut? I noted a yellow and white paint dot on the sport strut, but no paint dots on the standard strut that I purchased from the MB dealer.

[me] parts guru, i seek more enlightenment

[partsmaster] so soon, grasshopper!

[me] the front struts on a 350, do they have a part number?

[partsmaster] ahhhh, grasshopper, everything in the universe has its place - and a part number. The secret is in where to look.

[me] and...

[partsmaster] one moment...

[partsmaster] careful study shows Front Shock absorber as A171 320 01 30 (also A171 320 03 30 if you have option 486)

[me] thank you partsmaster.

[partsmaster] for for further education and wellbeing remember...
[partsmaster] Rear Shock absorber is A171 326 01 00 (also A171 326 02 00 if you have option 486). These numbers will serve you well.

[partsmaster] and one last thing...
[me] yes partsmaster?
[partsmaster] always check with your dealer (according to the scrolls the AMG variants are different!)
[me] of course partsmaster

@fgwinn, so which if those numbers, if any does the packaging have on it? Option 486 is sports suspension.

RE: NEW FEATURE: Ask the Parts Guru

Yeah, I defiantely think that this should be a sticky, cause it will certainly come in useful.

Oh, I can see a challenge coming on in the form of us trying to think up the most awkward part number for the Parts Guru to find

Though I do feel we may have offer him/her gifts after each request

Do the pivoting sunvisors (part of the Premium Package in the US) come with the mounting clips when ordered as a part? The clips are the ones near the mirror. If the clips are separate parts what are the part numbers for them?

Thanks!

[me] Parts Guru, what do the scrolls tell us about sunvisors.

[partsmaster] It is written in the scrolls that those in the fatherland and close-by had pivot-ability, but across the water, in a land far far away, only some had this feature, but all can achieve this higher state by ringing their dealer and repeating the following chant...

[me] go on ;-)

[partsmaster] Premium Sunvisor Right part number A171 810 02 10 (without vanity lights)
Premium Sunvisor Right part number A171 810 04 10 (with vanity lights)
Clip part number A230 811 41
Fixing screw part number A 001 984 45 29
Premium Sunvisor Left part number A171 810 01 10 (without vanity lights)
Premium Sunvisor Left part number A171 810 03 10 (with vanity lights)

Front strut part numbers

I changed the suspension on my 2005 SLK350 with sport suspension to the standard suspension. I did this to gain 10mm of ground clearance in the front and increase the ride comfort. Initially I was planning to keep the original parts in case I ever wanted to change back. But I prefer the standard suspension and decided to sell off the sport suspension parts which have about 7600 miles of use. I probably have the only SLK350 w/AMG body kit and standard suspension in the US. This configuration is available in other countries where the options can be purchased separately.

What I did not make clear in my question above is that I *know* the part numbers. The package for the standard front shocks clearly has the 171 320 01 30 on its label. The reason I am trying to determine the part number from the actual part is so that a potential buyer for the struts could know with certainty that the part number is 171 320 03 30.

BTW, I was able to remove the strut and disassemble it using a Canvik spring compressor. But I was not able to re-assemble it with the longer standard spring using the same compressor. Lesson learned is that you really need the right type of spring compressor to tackle this job.

I humblely request help from the Parts Guru (no not about my spelling )

I am trying to find the parts number for the stereo facial adaptor, that is found in the new lightweight track SLK, and can replace the Audio 20 head unit.

Ahh! Great question Bev!

I was thinking that MB got to have some stand in cover for that area.

I'm thinking of getting a Pioneer AVIC-Z1 and would need something to mount it in.

I thought Bev was looking for a flat panel, at least that's what I was looking for.
If it's not to much trouble it would be nice to know if they have one, especially if it has the same finnish as the rest of the interior panels.

Does the partsmaster know the part number for the little clip on the inside of the trunk that holds the triangle in place? After I got the car in europe they took it off for final delivery in the US..

There's no completely flat blanking plate i'm afraid! If and when MB release a fascia with a double din aperture i'll let you know! I'd guess one will come eventually!
