It is not a typical hitch receiver. It does not have the same side supports as mine has. It may not have Class 4 rating, but should support a Class 3.

It'll fit a 460. Nice job, very tough looking. You even used G steel.

What kind of knob are you gonna put on it? is it different in the US? Here in holland we use this:

It looks a lot like the hitch that Europa Intl used to sell. It didn't have the side supports either, but was rated Class V.

Yep, I just got irritated with the cost of a the factory hitch, and well...I've got all these tools and steel laying around that hadn't been touched in almost 2 years... It took a full day though. I didn't plan for that, so probably not cost effective.

Yes, I calculated that if I used 12.7mm steel for the whole thing then I wouldn't have to calculate anything else! I did forgo the flying-nun ears, just decided they weren't necessary, and that I'd need to attach the new rear bumper to the frame there anyway. I did have a big dilemma as to height, I really wanted to cut out the bumper and make it higher, as in it's current position it's about 5 inches lower than both my Rovers and the Mog. However with the spare on back, if I raise it up much more, there is very little clearance to the spare tire. All of my trailers are military (416 type), including my portal-axle log-splitter. So I suppose I'll just have the raise the G's suspension a little to make up for it!

Oh, any thoughts on the bolts to attach the hitch to the G frame? I used 14mm grade 10.9 with self-locking nuts.

And finally, now I need a bike/ski carrier for the G. Nothing off-the-shelf seems to clear the spare. Any recommendations? or am I going to have to make one of those too?

Sometimes cost effective is not what its all about. You built a very right thing for your truck that will make you grin inside every time you look at it and use it. I think the bolts will be just fine. Harder bolts in that size are difficult to find. I looked in my area. Check out Seymour MRO paint for that thing. Great stuff.

Do you already have your spare in the elevated position? I find i prefer having mine in the higher position. If you keep your center head rist in place it doesn't really block much more than is already blocked by that headrest, and then it's less likely to be hit by a car from behind, makes parking in tighter spots easier since it clears more of the hood of many cars, and it sounds like it might allow you to put the receiver where you want it... not that it's made already, ofcourse. That's 1/2" steel!Looks good!

I am concerned too, as the local fastener shop couldn't assure me the nylon locking nuts were the same strength, in fact they couldn't assure me any of thier nuts were 10.9. However, I did note the same combination appeared to be exactly what was on the truck in two of the mounting holes before I started. If they were completely in shear, I wouldn't worry at all, but there appears to be a fair amount of tension in this application. It's surprising how hard it is to get decent metric hardware here.

Garret, the bolts for the OEM hitch are 8.8's. If you are worried, try to find all metal selflockers in that size, they are hard. I think Kerry's suggestion is great. I am a fan of true split lockwashers over the spring washers on a lot of German equipment. They bite into the metal in a more sure way. If you don't plan on taking the hitchplate off much or at all use red Loctite on the threads as well.

G,,day , i forgot to add that i think enginering specs do not allow nyloc nuts for this type of application,i wouldnt trust them. if you want to see the difference ,take 2 high tensile bolts metric or imperial same sizeand grade a piece of steel with appropiate size holes ,1 equivalent grade high tensile nut 1 nyloc,oil threads and mating faces and do them up with a torque wrench until failure ,it may surprise you ,use oil to stop galling of threads and faces ,allthe best ,kerry.
