ALLWAYS ASK BEFORE TRAVELLING !!

Just recently I called a local car wrecker here is South Australia who mainly deals with European cars, and asked if they were wrecking any late model ML’s.

Now imagine my excitement when he tells me that they have just received a late model 55 AMG.
I asked what type of collision the vehicle was in, and he responded that it was not involved in a “collision”.

Suddenly I had visions of a wood grain steering wheel, body kit, side steps, and whatever else I could get at a good price.

Loaded up the toolbox, collected my mate, drove 30 miles to the wrecker, asked to be pointed to the AMG.

Hmmm. The wrecker was correct. No accident damage. Just a shame that it was a completely burnt out shell !

Next time I will ask, “what is the fire status??”

Cheers,
George.

RE: ALLWAYS ASK BEFORE TRAVELLING !!

As I started reading your story, I assumed it was a flooder. It pays to ask about fires.

Re: ALLWAYS ASK BEFORE TRAVELLING !!

There were Carfax commercials like this. They showed video clips of a car in a hurricane, and at the bottom, someone was writing out the ad.

"1999 4-DR Sedan
Slight water damage"

Then it was there for a second, and they erased the last line to:

"1999 4-DR Sedan
New upholstery!!!"

RE: ALLWAYS ASK BEFORE TRAVELLING !!

The other day a german got "blitzt" (flashed) by a radar in Austria ....  The Austrian cops were so amazed... bacause he was going backwards... doing 56KM/Hr in a 40 Zone.

1. The Cops tried to reproduce it ... and discovered it was only possible with a Automatic Transmission.

2. There was no additional penalty for speeding backwards

3. He is officially the first person to be caught by a speed trap going backwards

Imagine it looked like this!   ... "...No Sir, it hasn't been in an Accident" .

Peter,

Every time I think about it, I makes me laugh.
Looking at your pics, the car was not far off. At least this one has the doors and bonet intact.

When I think about it, I should of realised, that the damage was probably flood or fire damage. After all, if the car was not in a collision, it must be something serious for the insurance to write it off.

I tell you now, there I was, tool box in my hand, my mate and I staring at this disaster, and my mate said:

"Gee George - you on a winner here."

He then walked up to the front of the car and said:

"Quick, get the screwdriver, the front star emblem will come up a treat once we re-chrome it"

Even driving back, my mate refused to let it go, and kept reminding me how lucky I was to find this ML55.

I asked the wrecking yard owner why failed to point out this minor detail - the fire.

He replied that I hung before he could tell me, and all that he remembers was me saying "im on my way - then the slam of a telephone"

Oh well.

Cheers,
George.

RE: ALLWAYS ASK BEFORE TRAVELLING !!

In about 1996, I was at a salvage auto auction one time and seen a PERFECT looking Mitsubishi Diamante (1993) until we looked at it a little closer. Someone had obviously ran off the road and must have run through a ditch full of rebar and RipRap. The whole underside of the car was ripped to shreads. You could even see holes ripped in the floor board. The gear shifter was sitting sideways in the busted console. It had to have torn the tranny to pieces as well.

RE: ALLWAYS ASK BEFORE TRAVELLING !!

Georges ML350,  you nearly had me under the table in stitches of laughter on that last post!.

OZLANDER, That's my kind of humor! .... What do you think the "POLIZEI" would have thought of that one? ..... seeing that car in the autobahn stop..... and me with a screwdriver in one hand!. ... "Oh Officer was just exchanging my seats..... we will be finished in another minute or so"
