Hello friends, you all have a wonderful 4th of July holiday! We are very proud to be (new) Americans and living in one of the nicest place in the world. But we all need to remind ourselves every day, how much we have to value our freedom and way of life and never forget the price many paid - so we can live it. Karl & Patricia Volger P.S. The German toy and trailer are for sale - but not the G-mobile.... (IMG_2188.JPG) Attachments ---------------- IMG_2188.JPG (124KB - 13 downloads)

You might want to post more pics and details of your rear tire arrangment. No doubt people are always looking for solutions if the spare tire cover can't be used.

Karl, I used to own an identical 2004 BMW R1100S to yours except that I had a german MRA tinted windshield and a full Staintune exhaust. That was a really fun bike to toss around. I sometimes miss it. I replaced it with a K1200R. BTW, your trailer is pretty rare in europe and rarer than hens teeth in the states. To change the subject ... if you were satisfied with the rear gear work that you had done on your G-wagen, can you shoot me a PM with the shop name/contact? Many thanks. Martin

Martin Thanks Martin for your comments, it's "her" bike..........but she's rather drives the G-wagen! I'm very happy with the new gearing in the G, can tackle the Sepulveda Pass here in "D" even with this rare trailer. The diff guy turned out to be a wonderful, precise mechanic - works only on gear boxes and axles - he did an outstandig job replacing front & rear wheel bearings with all the trimmings while changing the axle gears. I'll PM you with the details. Hi ewalberg, the rear spare tire mount has been re-drilled to relocated the wheel. Not sure if it went up a bit or down. The cover is embarrassing simple, just a piece of plywood, cut to fit the 16" rim, covered with "cheap" vinyl and bolted with an allen-screw to the mount - I'll take some pictures... BTW Martin, this is "his" bike........ (IMG_2247.JPG) Attachments ---------------- IMG_2247.JPG (141KB - 11 downloads)

No sense in hiding the details of the mechanic who did the axle, wheel bearing work on your truck. Any body in CA could potentially use the info. I'm coming up on a wheel bearing job and I'm still trying to decide how i want to take care of it...

Karl, I guess you like BMW Motorad too. I have a garage full of them including an airhead GS and an oilhead GS. Here are pics of the two R1100S's that I've owned in the past. I rode the yellow '99 upto Laguna Seca in 2003 for the MotoGP. She had 54K miles when I sold her. The second pic is earlier this year at Willow Springs. Karl & Patricia Volger ============= Karl & Patricia Volger, Concerning your 91 300GE where did you order your roof rack? When I return back to the United States I would like to install one on my 1986 280GE. I want to thank you for the 4 of July greetings and your very inspirational quote! I am currently in Baghdad, Iraq and will celebrate 4 of July with my fellow soldiers in my unit. Also enjoy your 4 of July weekend with your family and your Gwagen. Good Luck in the sale of your wife's BMW R1100S, James Van Thach

Hello Captain Van Thach, thank you for your kind words and please extend our 4th of July greetings to all of your fellow soldiers. When I served in the Bundeswehr in the late sixties it was nothing but "Kinderkram" - knowing that, I can salute you and your comrades for your heroic service from the bottom of my heart. Ok, to the roof rack, it's a Hanibal rack with tent and a modified access ladder. It took a long time to get from a local distributor, but they are carring it not anymore - wonder why.... I'll PM you with a friends info who builds custom aluminum roof racks for G's, LR's and Hummer. Thanks again, Karl (IMG_0002.JPG) Attachments ---------------- IMG_0002.JPG (195KB - 9 downloads)

Karl, I just knew you were a GelandeStrasse kind of guy. I ride an airhead RS, closest thing to a diesel in a BMW scoot. Your spare mount is very nice. Martin, nice bikes, but the Italian F4 machine you're parked next to? I've only seen them in silver and Red! -Dai

I ride an airhead RS, closest thing to a diesel in a BMW scoot. Your spare mount is very nice. -Dai Dai, your are almost right, but there are two more areas to play in......http://www.cyberbitz.com I don't know what an airhead RS looks like right now, but I used to race an "airhead" in the olden days - R50/2 with 16:1 compression, running on pure alcohol, Delorto carbs w/ dual float chamber in a sidecar rig on 800m grass & dirt tracks - very interesting! Besides getting some trophies saw the hospital for five weeks..... Back to the G'ssss, the spare wheel cover is so simple to make as the old cover wouldn't go on the 33" tires. I have a few more hrs before the soocer game at noon - let me take some detail pics and post them here. May the better team win - always! Karl Edited by fernweh 7/4/2006 10:49 AM
