Best source of body panels?

My 460 has rust in the usual places (sills, door bottoms, firewall under window) and I'm looking for what would be the best source of replacement metal to weld on/over the bad spots. I've seen what MB offers, the fiberglass body parts coming out of Poland, and non-OME parts being offered on ebay.de.

Any thoughts?

BTW, anybody know what the standard thickness was )if there was one) of metal used on the 460/461/463 bodies?

Thanks

Re: Best source of body panels?

I originally bought mine from Europa, but as they are out of business, I would try Sean at Eurotruck parts (I have had good luck with original equipment parts). If I remember correctly, they were not so expensive, they fit well, were easy to put on and were a lot cheaper than the labor to make them myself

Good Luck

Is he getting his stuff from Europe? Seeing as I'm here in Europe, I would expect to find better prices here. That said, I'd be happy to find a relatively cheap source in the States.

Re: Best source of body panels?

G'Man,

Speaking from experience. Since you're in Heidelberg, Buy all your body panels from the MB dealer. Ask them for a discount and tell them what you plan to do and use them exclusively except for electrical items which you can get at the Bosch Dienst for about half price. In the long run, you'll be glad you did. Cheaper body panels are just that. CHEAPER!

There is no cheaper source in the states. Your truck was designed, engineered and built in Europe (Germany and Austria) and the best prices on parts are here.

If you're headed to the US soon, buy all the parts you're going to need here and take them with you.

Very sound advice.

However, it is possible to buy some G parts through MBUSA channels for less than what they cost in Germany, no matter what type of discount they give you at the MB Dealer. Doesn't seem logical, but is works out that way sometimes. It may have something to do with the current monetary exchange rates.

For W460 specific parts, definitely pick them up in Germany and save yourself a few greenbacks.

If you find a stash of the W460 black plastic hood grilles, please get a few for me.

Sean,

exactly what are you looking for when you say (If you find a stash of the W460 black plastic hood grilles, please get a few for me.)

Good description or a picture would suffice.

Re: Best source of body panels?

Hi
Sean is talking about the black rectangular plastic piece on the hood close to the windshield. The piece for the 460 and early 463(with one washer jet) are no longer available. The only ones available are the new style with twin washer jets. There are 3 part numbers in the EPC including one for the 461, but they have all been superceded to the newer style. So take care of the one you have!!
