Winch in a 460

Hello friends.
I am planning to add a Warn 8000i to my 240GD, I would like some counseling on how to modify the front bumper to accomodate ir properly.
My initial intention is to modify the stock front bumper, cutting and welding some sort of base and then bolt the winch to this base.
I remember seeing a few pictures of several members so if anyone would be so kind of advising, I'll appreciate it.

thank you very much
Fernando

Are you looking for something like this?
Winch mount is bolted on bumper.

If you have a stock bumper with a towing "eye" you could also use a removable winch mount, like the one I built - still waiting for the right fairlead/composite rope

RE: Winch in a 460

My idea was much the same except I opted for a fixed winch mount onto the same four bolts that hold the front bumper in place, keeping weight to a minimum and clearance to a maximum.

RE: Winch in a 460

I just had fabricated a front winch mount (based on the rotzler) which has a 2" receiver for my portable winch. I also had a rear hitch receiver installed for the same use. Also, I will use the front and/or rear receiver for a bike rack, basket, and a motorcyle rack.

A motorcycle rack? Are you talking about a full sized (dirt)bike? Do you have pictures of that setup?

I would be very much interested in such a system as I would like to take a dirt bike along in the future (occasionally girlfriend gets to drive the G from A to B and I would take an alternative route )

What will be the proper solution for all the added weight in terms of shocks and springs?

Regards,

Re: Winch in a 460

I am in the same situation, but what I would like to know is if I got the bracket for the bumper tow pin to mount my warn 9000 ti, whether I would still need to rearrange some cooling apparati?

RE: Winch in a 460

Northsea, the motorcylce I carry is a Honda CT70 - weight 64kg. Combined weight of the hitch-haul and bike is circa 80kg. I understand that the max tongue weight on a 280ge (460) is 150kg, so I don't think special springs will be required. I don't have a picture of the setup --- because I have not tried it out yet. I have used the setup for 8 years on a front hitch receiver on my GMC truck without any problems --- but I will not carry the motorcyle on the front of the g-wagon, just the rear. As far as the front goes, I used the G-Wagon last week to tow a small utility trailer carrying my atv. It was in the high 20's and I had the big winch out front --- I did not experience cooling problems. So, I am under the impression that if I use the hitch haul out front, with a small amount of gear, I should not have any problems with cooling.

You can see a hitchhaul at

RE: Winch in a 460

Thanks for sharing that info Sloughboy.

A Honda CT70 ... I was more thinking along the lines of a 250cc dirt bike or better yet a 450cc off roader

Still a nice hitch-haul though.
