I don't remember how that turned out and was just curious if anyone remembers. Since the likelyhood of a 320cdi anytime soon is probably zero, importing a swiss worker might be almost worth the red tape if possible.

The 270cdi or the 320cdi engines would be easily done from the EPA standpoint, since both are already approved for use here in the States. Where you would run into problems with the W461 Worker is with the fact that only the W463 chassis is approved for import. That being said, it is up to you and the RI to prove that the W461 is "substantially similar" to the W463 to be able to import it without crashtesting, etc.
I would think that importing an W463 G320cdi would be pretty straightforward with little red tape on this end, given you work with an experienced RI. If you want one bad enough, you can make it happen. Give me a shout one day and I'll tell you what I can about the process.

Don't anyone give up or feel disheartened. As wonderful and cool the W461 is, we must forget it - MB will NEVER import one or invest the money to make it USA legal.

They should just look how successful the Land Rover Defender is. NO luxuries but the parking lots are full of them. A w461 worker at a good price will sell like hot cakes. I will buy a 320CDI 461 if ever available. If they are building them anyway for the military who not make them available????????????????????????????
