How deep?

In another topic, some people were talking about going through deep water and having to air out the carpets and such. I do not have a G yet but I am curious how deep can the G go without encountering any problems?

Re: How deep?

If I am not mistaken, I think a G can go into water as high as where the black rubber side strips are. The reason I say this is that on 463 Gs that have the vents on each side of the hood I see a snorkel that is connected if the driver knows they will be taking their G deeper. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

RE: How deep?

You may need to qualify "without any problems". Driving in and out successfully and not having any water ingress to any part of the car are two separate things...

I have heard this too. The black stripe is where people claim is the limit. Of course, water leaking thru the door seals is another matter. But in terms of true fording capability, the G is ready. The axles, transfer case, and transmission breather tubes are all extended (at least on 463 G) to the top of the firewall in the engine bay. The air intakes are on the side of the hood. All of which are above the rubber stripe.

The last time that i checked, the rubber stripe is about 37" from ground.

Does anyone know the height of the alternator in the G from ground up?? That could be the limited point for mud.

Re: How deep?

On a North American 463 - late model - I would think that the blue lights in the door sills would be the first thing to suffer from the effects of water.

Re: How deep?

On way to look at it is that once you get past the door sills you may likely start to get water into the interior depending on the quality of the seal on the plastic liner behind the door trim. I have a love/hate relationship with my light up sills. I think they're stupid as hell, but funny conversation pieces.

What is it 17 or 19" the manufacturer stated limit... i'd take that as the guarantteed limit... certainly you can go deep than that.

You will never have a problem if you keep it out of the doors.
