New Container...

Hi, I have recently purchased an Obsidian Black G 500 L from 1998. In the past I have had a 280 GE from 1990, the last of the line, dark blue with with Recaro interior.

So far no problems except the central locking was playing with me today. Alarm goes on and off, but the locks didn´t until after I opened and locked with the key. Shouldn´t both go by the same IR signal or are there two sensors?

You may have to retrain or reprogram the IR transmitter in the key fob. Directions to do this are in the owner's manual.

RE: New Container...

Thanks, I saw in the book how to do this, but since it came back to work without me doing anything I´ll better not try this I think. I was just curious if there were two sensors and maybe the sun or something could interfere. But it could have been just about anything I guess, I am used to electric gremlins in MB:s....

Re: New Container...

I have had the IDENTICAL SAME PROBLEM.
I am still tracking it down. If I let the truck sit for several days. It gives me these problems. I am sure about one of two things. It does not respond well to slightly low voltage (from the battery), or I may have a loose ground (or connection) under the dash. Since I have been driving my truck every day for the past month, I have not run into this problem. Once I switch back to the sedan for a few days, I will see if it still happens.

Email me for more questions or details.

Has it worked in the past? Have you tried to reprogram it per the instructions in the owner's manual? Does the second remote or the backup credit card remote work?

Depending on the answers to these questions, it's possible that you may have a bad remote. I had to replace one on my 1999/2000 G500.

Programming the Remote

First, I'll ass-u-me that your remote is like the one pictured on page 11 of this scan. If yes, use the procedure on page 12 to reset the system. If, however, you get the alternate flashing red and green lights in the rear view mirror (page 8), you have a service problem.
