Steering Wheel

I was wondering if I could put a new steering wheel on my g it is an 85' and the steering wheel is falling apart(the leather stuff). Could i add a newer steering wheel because I dont really like how big it is either.

RE: Steering Wheel

You can replace the steering wheel with any of the car steering (no airbag?) the problem with the new smaller steering wheels is that the visual of the dials is constricted.

Re: Steering Wheel

Have you thought about just buying a steering wheel wrap? You really think that steering wheel is too big? I think the size is just right.

RE: Steering Wheel

The MB power steering is relatively weak. If you change the wheel to smalled diameter, your steering will be even more heavy. May not be an issue on road, but off-road that extra power is nice.

Re: Steering Wheel

Mercedes has always had a larger wheel so that the driver can apply more torque. The larger the circle the more torque/power you produce. With a smaller wheel at standstill there will be more effort needed on your part to turn. I believe the steering boxes on the new cars have a higher output thus less effort thus smaller wheel can be used. I have found over the years that in a Mercedes you "feel" the road. For me the new cars (circa Daimler Chrysler) Have lost that feel.
