New Lights

The only other changes to the G in the past months are on the front bumper.  I always hated having to get out and remove the covers from the cheap Hella driving lights, and last winter one of them had the housing crack in a particularly cold spell, so I was looking to replace them.  A guy offered me these "1000FF" lamps at a good price with the clear stone shields included so I grabbed them.  They're all magnesium with the reflector, housing, and mounting cast as one, so they're nice and solid.  They throw good light too from the free-form reflectors.  I didn't want to put thought into how to mount them using the factory mounts since they're deeper than the factory lights and didn't really fit there.  So I just used the holes that had been perfectly placed in the bumper by some PO.  Worked a treat and they're JUST BARELY clearing the flip-open headlight grilles.

One side effect was that when I mounted the left side light I lost the hole that was holding my license plate bracket so I came up with a new license plate mounting.  I bolted the plate to a short piece of exhaust pipe, squashed the pipe a little bit, and passed the tow pin through the pipe so the pipe is trapped in the bumper pocket.  I'll have to do somethign with the plate when I want to use the tow pin, but that's not too often.

RE: New Lights

I dont remember your truck having a winch....by the same token I remember another truck that had a winch and now doesnt. I like the lights. I am waiting patiently for one of mine to crack so I can make the upgrade.

The winch was on my old 280GE, now owned by burquedoka. Some photos of it on its original host are here:
