This is from the haynes manual for the merc 124 series but similar Just be careful you dont get any airlock these engines are susceptable. leave the cap off until it starts to bubble and squeeze the rad hoses periodically until it warms up the bottom hose will get hot first then when the stat opens the top one will allowing the flow through the rad. When I fill the diesel blocks I remove the thermostat and fill there until full. Then I put the thing back in and top off the radiator. This technique has eliminated the airlock issues I had before I figured this out. It also puts the thermostat in direct contact with the coolant which it isn't when they airlock.
