RE: Looking for a 603.931 Engine

I can't help you then... I believe this was never fitted to any vehicle officially imported into the US of A, though I stand to be corrected.

I had a brand new one fitted to my G300D back in January. Silky smooth and surprisingly powerful and torquey. Check the pics.

Good luck with your search!

That must have cost a small fortune - I see the selling price in Germany is Euro 7100.

Not so Peter, thank God. Bear in mind that the only problem in my former engine was a cracked head. I paid a fraction of the official price for the complete engine, not that much more than just replacing the head, because the cost of the new head, gaskets, etc would have been a small fortune anyway.

I got the engine from the Spanish specialist in GWagens, Carlos Acosta (http://www.csa4x4.com/ ) who told me he had sourced a number of new engines directly from the Mercedes factory in Germany. At that time he had a number of units of the light versions of the OM603 and OM617 and light and complete versions of the OM617A for the US market (complete with starter, alternator, manifolds, turbo, injection pump, fan and even the infamous EGR valve) at very attractive prices. All the engines were the saloon versions (W124 and W123 respectively) and they were naturally sold shortly after and fitted to a number of very happy Gs.

RE: Looking for a 603.931 Engine

If my memory serves me correctly, '94 and '95 E300 sedans built for the u.s. market had a non-turbo 603 variant, although the oil pan is most likely different. This may be an optionfor you to explore.

Hope this helps!
