G350DT Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Veggie Oil Update Finished the conversion on my truck to run 100% veggie oil and it works perfect thus far and does not really give off a chinese food smell. I have a 3 stage filter 100/50/10 before it goes into the truck. I have the rear tank running 50/50 for starting and warming up then 100% in the heated tank. I did not heat the fuel line just insulated it but I did however heat the fuel filter. I went the extra step to add a temp guage on the outgoing fuel line that turnd off the heat at 165 and on at 155. I also installed a guage to see tank temp and line temp to make sure it is going well. I was lucky that the previous owner has installed a higher flow and stronger fuel pump thus I think that helps a bit. Now to find a diesel engine for the 85 G280 and I can do the same there. If anyone wants to go this route I am more then happy to help with tank mods or anything else. I dun lerned dat weldin ting Actually I spent 5 years in a ship yard as a welder. Thanks to all the imput before I started.. Total cost to bring my fuel price down to about $.25 a gallon was $500 incluiding the filtering tanks. Lets see Exxon beat that

Alaskagwagen Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: Veggie Oil Update Great! Where did you put your veggie tank? In my SWB there is precious little room. I figure I can get 20 gals in a tank on the flowo filling the space between the wheel wells. How about running the lines - holes in the floor? Up here in AK I would have to heat everything - the tank, the line, the filter(s). its not a big deal with the ESPAR D4 heater installed - just a lot of hot water lines running everywhere. Any pics of your set up? Thanks, Adam

The guy who did it told me that he could fit a custom tank under the car. Look at the FRYBRID web site and look in the http://www.frybrid.com/forum/showthread.php?t=602&highlight=300gd for photos. Alaskagwagen Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: Veggie Oil Update Terrance, Ah I remember this "vehicle from hell". It looks good. Did Chris in Seattle make your tank? I'd love to have one under the vehicle. I have never owned a 460 LWB so I am not sure where it would go - there was not much room on the 463 LWB nor on the 460 or 463 SWBs I have had/have. RIght now I am going the Biodiesel route but I'd love to go SVO. I really like the frybrid system - last I looked he was several months behind the demand - that bodes well. Adam

CEOG Veteran Date registered: Apr 2006 Location: Seattle Vehicle(s): 80 230G Posts: 110 | RE: Veggie Oil Update Adam, Yes Chris is busy so much demand. I seem to recall a retail site that was selling a long distance tank that went in the cargo area and was esssentially a new floor level. I will try and find the link. One issue I have with that other forum is now my old bookmarks do not go to the marked thread. I use Bio in the main tank and when it was originally making the switch from dino to bio I had to replace the fuel filter and supply hoses, other than that no real issues. I also like having the option of 4 fuels. try http://www.orc.de//inhalt.php?bereich=Zubeh%F6r&subnav=29&sprache=2... It shows a second tank Chris could probably custom one. Kermit Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Re: Veggie Oil Update About five years ago I was looking at having a fuel tank built for the cargo area, and after a lot of searching I found someone nearby who could make one out of 6mm nylon, with baffles, about 180-200 litres. I was quoted about three hundred Australian dollars for it. I'm sure you could get one custom made for a good price. I never went ahead with it, but if I start processing WVO, then I will.

Just an opinion. Good luck. Steve

There is a good source here in Olympia, and I thought that I would start with 85 and watch my fuel filters, etc. The next step will be to change the fabric/rubber fuel lines, and step up the bio mix a bit more. Any other suggestions? Do any of you use an additive with bio85? Such things as Redline or other diesel fuel conditioner?

I drove to the biodiesel station today, and they offer two levels of biodiesel. B20 and B99. Since it is a member only unservice station, I first need to obtain the biodiesel member card. I should have that next week, since this same company delivers propane to my house. Anyway, I will go with the 20/80 mix first. The price of B20 was $3.08 and B99 is $2.99. Shell diesel is running 3.05 - 3.09 here, so B99 is actually cheaper.

Tristan Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: Veggie Oil Update You lucky dogs up there in the NorthWest! B99 is $3.60 around here, so I've been blending B99 with about 25% super-filtered WVO Soybeean oil in my unmodified 300GD with no trouble. I just make sure I keep up on the pre-filter. It's nice to have the non-MB clear prefilter. I have never had to replace any fuel lines in almost two years of running bio-fuels. I'm also considering the Ultra-Filter. Nice machined alluminum filter. Check it out here: http://ultrafuelfilter.com/ Looks really nice, would love to hear some feedback if anyone has one. Cheers, Tristan

G350DT Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: Veggie Oil Update I am running 50/50 in my starting tank and have yet to see any issues and with that tank it is the stock oil filter. I see different thoughts on how much you can run as a mix but so far so good. Someone I know has a huge estate near me and we are in the process of converting all their tractors to veggi as they burn about 200 G a week durning the spring/summer/fall season. As it is illegal to sell WVO for fuel without a permit I however am selling then about 50 gallong of oil for chain saw blades at $.50 a gallon Boy they use a lot of bar oil a week. One thing I was to work on try next is my home heater that is oil, veggie would make that a real savings. I will update everyone as I progress

Thomas, I would say go for the B20 for a while until you are comfortable blending higher percentages. We have no power loss and I think it is much smoother running with the Bio D. It smokes a bit at startup but that is all. Steve where you not running straight organic virgin cold press olive oil when we met? I do think it was the best smelling diesel motor exhaust I have ever encountered! I just paid $3.20 a gallon for dino D for the farm truck. Yipes. -Dai

I usually blend about a 10:1 ratio of SVO:RUG (regular unleaded gas) with a quart of generic ATF to help lubricate the injection pump. Since the local weather rarely drops below 50*F, I don't need to worry about heating the brew or running a two tank system. Diesel prices are about $3.50/gal locally .... Costco sells virgin soy oil in 35# jugs for $12.79 which roughly converts to $2.79/gal. Not much of a savings, but a good feeling about dumping less particulate into the atmosphere. Steve Smith ... I curious about your setup. Let's compare notes.

Not much of a savings, but a good feeling about dumping less particulate into the atmosphere. In the SF Bay area diesel is going for $3.30/gal and Costco is selling the 35# jugs for $11.99 or $2.61/gal. That would be about a 70 cent discount in both places. A coincidence? I wonder;) I'm looking for someone to sell me an 1000L IBC container full of oil with a refill contract. No luck so far.
