OM 602 Turbo

The waste gate on my 1999 290GDT is damaged, after getting quotations for a replacement turbo (only sold as a complete unit), I noticed that the price for a G-wagon (OM602.983 motor) turbo is more than FOUR (yes 4) times the price of a OM602 Sprinter (OM602.980 motor) turbo!

The sprinter turbo is part number A6020960899 and the G-wagon part number is A6020961799. After searching the web http://www.turbomotors.ru/?l=1&m=2&marka=109&modelis=nav&razotajs=3... I found the Sprinter OM602.980 uses a Garrett GT2538C with Garrett part number 454207-0001, 1) could anyone please help me to obtain the Garrett part number for the G-wagon turbo (A6020961799)?

2) I am considering replacing the G-wagon turbo with the Sprinter turbo, where can I obtain boost spec for Garrett turbos in general?

3) I figure that the only difference between the Sprinter and G-wagon turbo is the "manifold interface", any comments?.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

RE: OM 602 Turbo

I'd be interested in a photo of the turbo setup you have. I'm contemplating adding tuned exhaust headers with a VNT turbo off of the newer CDI motors. Largely for reduced back pressure and reduced turbo lag.

Is the wastegate on your truck one that is opened by manifold over-pressure, or closed by ECU controlled vacuum? Variable orofice or standard wastegate?

RE: OM 602 Turbo

Alan,

This is the Sprinter turbo, it looks similar to the G-wagon unit. Not sure how it operates, but definitely not ECU controlled.
