Wolfgang Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | ML430 wins 24 hours 4x4 de Paris 2002 Just came across this picture, a bit late... http://www.24heures4x4.fr ML430 wins 24 hours Paris 4x4 2002 18/09/2002: The 10th edition of the 24 hour Paris 4x4 race crowned a standard vehicle, a Groine Mercedes ML 430, driven by Thierry Magnaldi in rally raids. Thierry teamed up with other members of TEAM Groine: Jipé Strugo, George Lansac and the Spaniard José Villalba. Congratulations to these 4 men for the exploit carried out this weekend, vis-a-vis a very large and tough field. Commented Magnaldi: "I teamed with George Lansac, Jean-Pierre Strugo and José Villaba. The race wasn't easy. We had set up two teams, one for the day and one for the night. I ran at night with Lansac. The car functioned very well and we didn't have any concern with it." Three other MLs finished, one even in the top 15. http://www.whnet.com/4x4/trips.html

Wolfgang Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | 24 hours 4x4 de France 2006 Just received photos from the Guy de Wulf: Mercedes M-Class finishes 24 hour 4x4 de France 2006 second in T1 Drivers are Jpe Strugo (driving in the picture top right) with Thomasse and Besson. Due to brake problems and a refueling mistake the ML falls back to last place, but then has a remarkable comeback and finishes 18th overall and second in the T1 production class, and is the fastest gasoline T1 car. Reported and pictures by Guy de Wulf. 9/24/2006

It's similar to the Formula 1 races where they have to do with 2.5 liter displacement engines now. (Too many fatalities or accidents otherwise, is one reason for the restriction.). By the way, there was also a buggy in the race powered by Mercedes and it took third place overall. I am not sure what type of engine it has, but assume it's the new 3.5 liter M272 V6. It also has top-quality Mercedes ML430 parts. So it's good for racing... see, it won!
