My first fault

Looks like my car will be visiting the workshop for a warranty repair. Today I get the message "Restraint system malfunction Visit workshop!"

RE: My first fault

Not bad in 10 months though Steve. Obviously a minor fault as well.

I have been configuring a Z4M Coupe on the BMW website this morning and then slapped myself round the face and told myself to get a grip.

I'm not too worried, and it's not like it broke down or anything. It's booked in for Tuesday which is fine. I don't like the idea of the car being pulled apart, but it could just be a faulty sensor or switch which is easily replaced.

Not bad - ten months in and the first fault. A mate of mine's 171 280 has been a catalogue of faults which almost ended up on the car going back - all within a few days and weeks of ownership. But all is now sorted.

Hope this is not the first of many for you - and just a glitch

I have had an M Coupe (loved it), a Z3, and a Z4 (loved them, too). Interesting article in, um, C&D? R&T? on the new M Roadster. It's marvelous, as why wouldn't it be, but they said that the performance comes with a stiffness and such that make it not a great daily driver.

And, of course, the top is made of cloth! So last century!

RE: My first fault

Here's an update. The car has been in today, and they were unable to fix it, but they say that they have identified the fault. Two wires have higher resistance than they should. Given the spaghetti in there (if you've seen the production line) and that the wiring loom contains 3.5Km of wire, it's slightly worrying. However they have to order a part, so presumably they will replace a section of it fairly easily. It should be going in again at the end of the week, if the parts arrive.

From what they are saying, it sounds like this:

http://www.alldata.com/tsb/Mercedes-Benz/1095145200000_1102492800000_P-91-60-78/

However that's for MY 05 cars and mine is an 06 and was built 9 months after that was published, so maybe it's something else.

This one looks more likely:

http://www.alldata.com/tsb/Mercedes-Benz/1137484800000_1139212800000_P-91-60-78C/index.html

A few parts and quite a bit of soldering involved
