JohnL Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Installed New Rear Pads on 99 ML320 At my last B Service, the dealer reported I needed new rear pads and the rotors were fine. But at the asking price of $500 plus tax, I turn him down. I never have done brake work before, but at that price I was willing to try. I used this link at my guide: http://members.aol.com/dominic888/howtoreplaceml320brakepads The the rear pads uses 13 mm bolts, after you remove them you must pull on the boot to release the caliper. I had to use my large flathead screwdriver to carefully pry the caliper off. The rest of instructions in the guide is the same. Pics: 1) Getting all the tools needed for the job, 2) See the 13 mm bolt on back of the caliper, 3) Caliper with pads removed, 4) Old and new pads, 5) Close up of old and new pads, 6) Using the brake piston pusher, 7) New pads! I took my time, the Jack and stands were new. Figured out the best place to use the jack and place the stands. Got stuck on removing the caliper, the guide didn't say after removeing the bolts to pull back on the boots to release it. Had to use the screw driver to slowly pry it out. The second side was easy after that. It took me about 3 hours to do all the work and bed the pads.

It must be done extremely slow or you risk the chance of damaging the ABS/master cylinder. I do it this way but slowly!
