I need Tires - well, maybe soon

The old Dunlops are noisy and show severe uneven wear. They performed quite well on my trip to NY a couple of weeks ago but today in some real slushy stuff here in the DC area, I wasn't that impressed. So they have to go soon.Unlike the Pirelli/Michelin crowd, I have narrowed my finalists to the General Grabber UHP ($110 @ The Rack), the Yokohama ADVAN ST ($169 @The Rack) and the B'Stone Dueler H/P ($166). I drive mostly no snow, but once a year I trek to NY for Skiing. My choice is the Grabbers, but I'd like to hear live experiences from you folks. Chime in please - no theories here, just real life experience, thanks. Remember, except for my annual trip up north, I have little very little snow in the winter time!!!

Pretty intuitive but you forgot to bold the "N", how could you forget that?????. May be it's just the way the font is presented. The reason the Michelin is out is because I don't think I need that kind of winter grip!!! We just don't get any snow here and so, I concluded that a decent all weather, summer leaning tie will suffice, without the noise,....., and cost!!!
But thanks for the input. Now you have me going back, revisiting my decision tree. I hate that!!!!!!!!!!

Huh? Looks bold to me.

I've always had good luck with Michelins, tho they don't last long, they handle great. I have Pirellis on my 320 but it was not my choice. The dealer I got the car from had already installed them.

As we are not answering Darkmann's actual question I will chip in with my choice of Continental CrossContact LX; this is the replacement for the 4x4 Contact which was a compromise all-round tyre and not very good at anything.

The ML came with Dunlop tyres, I would have mounted Michelins but they are not available in Europe.

These CrossContact LX's are very good in the dry and the wet, quite good on mud and snow, are quiet, don't get caught in grooves and have robust sidewalls, these are the first tyre that I have had which I would buy again.

FWIW, I am happy with my general grabber at-2's. LOTS of tread depth. not that noisy. $100 ea at tire rack. I liked my michelin x-terrains, but they were gone in < 40k miles, and i dont 'drive it like i stole it', at least not regularly. had them mounted with the tacky raised white letters on the inside.

First off - I thought the Dunlops that came with my 430 were very good tires (for my driving style, local weather conditions and typical road use). I would have bought another set of them in a heartbeat if Dunlop still made them. The Dunlop replacements weren't well-received by many ML owners so I looked for something else and ended up with Goodyear Fortera Triple Treads which I put on in the early fall I think. For me (same qualifier as above), they were great winter tires. We don't usually see snow here (Victoria, BC). This winter was a bug exception. It usually rains every day though. The tires were great in either and seem good on dry pavement. We'll see how they work in the summer here where we get no rain for many months at a stretch.

Re: I need Tires - well, maybe soon

I've run Yokohama Geolandar AT + II's on my past two ML's. The G-Wagen has BFG M/T's. The Yokohama's are an excellent tire for adverse conditions while still retaining on road refinement. Some people may disagree with me here, but then again, I'd venture to say I've taken my ML320 and ML500 way further off-road and through nastier conditions than 99.9% of the owners here too. I think I currently have 275-65-17's. However, I've heard that there is a 265-70-17 available as well. I might look at that sizing next time for a bit more sidewall.
