| Wolfgang? Any info on Mobil1 10W40?
I just changed to 10W40 after my engine flush. Engine's very quiet. I'm not used to hearing it run so smooth and no hydrolic lifters ticking. Do you have any specs on the 10W40? It's only been on the market a few months. It's called Mobil1 10W40 high mileage full synthetic motor oil.

There's some info on the Mobil 1 site about it. It's not (yet?) approved by Mercedes as far as I can tell.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure MB will ever recommend it because it 'appears' that there may be additives in it to help clean up the engine, even though it doesn't specifically say so. I don't know if the flush quietened it down or the oil, but, my oil consumption is near zero and it used 1/2 qt. per week! A month later, it's still full and the oil is a honey color, instead of the black I used to get a few days after changing. I'll stick with it and see if it maintains the good performance.

You would not believe the crud and sludge I got out. Gunk Motor Flush. I warmed the engine (not hot) and poured it in and let it idle for 10 minutes. I should have done it a long time ago. |
