I thought they spent $1.1 billion on the new plant for the W164...

One might add that

The M-Class set the standard for luxury SUV's that other brands copied.

It won the production class for the Paris Dakar rally xx times (need to ask Wolfgang for the number).

In spite of all the griping about it, the M-CLass was a very successful vehicle from the business point of view, unlike several of its competitors!

It also offered a seven seat option.

Yes, Jpe Strugo won the Dakar in 2000 and again in 2003, with a ML430 in the production class.

The ML also won the Fia Cross Country Worldcup several times, in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003.

Amazing vehicles.
