There are two on the market so far...

there is the 'first to market' breakthrough product...
http://www.reinhold-engineering.de/english/Products/DC/CMR171_eng.h...

and then there is the 'plug and play' one as supplied by marcus piecha and XTC and probably others very soon
which claims no splicing of wires. This one fits on the footwell i'm told.
http://www.piecha.com
http://www.x-t-c.com/phpshop/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=47_59_9...

there is also mention of this module on mspeed, who may be the actual manufacturers

RE: Aftermarket remote vario roof modules

Hi !

The modules distributed by Piecha and X-T-C are the MSpeed Module. MSpeed is a company from Cologne/ Germany building all kind of various modules like V-Max Modules. They also supply parts and software to car tuning companies and are on the market for about 20 years now.

First pic of the piecha module

here's a pic of the kit!
4 wires (looks as though the red/power wires does need to be connected to an existing supply)

What has the experience been like to those that have installed the piecha module? I prefer the one that goes in the footwell with minimal work or disassembly.

Well over on Torstens board, the first few people have got their module from Piecha and response seems to be good. Average fiting time seems to be less than 1 hour.
One guy tried to get his dealership to fit it for him, but they declined. Hardly surprising really!

based on these findings, i'm probably gonna order one on Friday - decisions, decisions!

ianx, is there a English version of the install manual that I missed? Can you tell us where those plugs go and what the module plugs into? Trying to gauge my "self installability" risk.

i'll be double checking with the vendors if they've got an english manual myself ;-)

right the wires...
i'd guess the orange is the earth wire
red is the 5v supply
and the other two join into the CANBUS circuitry.

controlling the module is done via the telephone keys on the steering wheel apparently.

Marcus Piecha is reporting that he can now do the install in 20 mins, now that he's done a few!

I hope they're willing to show some step by step photos.
I am anxiously awaiting for the English translation of the installation procedures, operating instructions and limitations.

Perhaps they may have qualified installers in the U.S.?

Since i figured out I won't be getting the Bluetooth phone gadget. I've ordered this today. I'll do a graphic

report on installation if it arrives quickly with plenty of pics on my new camera.

Cool.

I hope the installation procedure is simple enough for most DIY (do-it-yourself) people.

Yes, please! Very interested in seeing how it works, and how hard to install.

That module looks very simple, almost looks like something you can make yourself with a trip to Radio Shack. Can't wait to see it work, Easty, maybe you can post vids of the roof operation after the install.

Now, I understand the operating instructions.

Do we know if the installation instructions has been updated in English as well? I am anxiously awaiting experiences of those that have installed the module themselves, perhaps step by step photos and comments on what to avoid potential mistakes. I am not that technologically nor mechanically savy.

I count at least a dozen folks on Torstens German forums, who have either this module or the reinhold one installed. So they definately work in German cars!
Aquascape ordered the reinhold one and it wouldn't work with a UK car!
I'm definately going to order one before the price increase on the 15th - there should be plenty more feedback by then as quite a few US owners have put in orders.

I've had a good read now!

The english isn't so clear. In case you can't guess you have to remove the Door sills!

anyway big CAUTION for UK / RHD cars. These instructions are for the drivers-side footwell on a German car (i.e the left hand side of their cars). I'm assuming the UK cars will have the canbus wiring on our drivers side, but sometimes this is not the case!!!!

I wrote Marcus a note about how to remove the sills, we'll see what he says. I kind of messed with mine at lunch and it wasn't just obvious how it comes off.

I can host the files if you want me to. Drop me an email.
